Shadow Cards gold penalties

By Jayy, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi.

When I bring a normal out of house card from shadows into play I have to pay 2 additional gold?

And with City of Shadows as agenda, when I bring a House X only out of house card into play from shadows, I have to pay the 2 additional gold plus 1 additional because house X only? So 3 gold extra? Or just 1?

Out of curiosity, what "normal" out of house Shadow cards are you looking at? Every Shadow card that I can think of is either neutral or has "House X only."

Thanks.

You are right, I thought there are also some non "House X only" non Neutral Shadow cards.

But then a Shadows deck is really expensive, if you have to pay +1 gold for the most of the cards.

Unless you've got a Hidden Chambers in play, of course. Or three.

It's also not +1 on your own House and neutrals. So if you cherry-pick the best out-of-House Shadow cards and build your income curve properly, it's really not that bad. City of Shadow decks are actually pretty good - although you tend to see them out of Stark Winter these days for Hidden Chambers. I wouldn't be surprised if we see an uptick in Lanni City of Shadows given the Lions of the Rock box. Shadow Clans could be an interesting build....

Hidden Chambers is Stark. And then it has to be winter. Not very useful for all other houses.

Sometimes I wonder about the AGoT game design.

Sure. I can play only Neutral and own house shadows cards. And then I use the Shadows agenda just because its penalty. aplauso.gif

Coin Mint seems like a great way to reserve gold to bring cards out of shadows where one doesn't normally have gold in their pool. Coupled with the Search and Detain plot card, the Coin Mint can get a recharge after you've depleted it.
