I've had this gun for years.......

By Flaminpiglet, in Rogue Trader

I was wondering if anyone out there has considered giving players a bonus to their WS or BS for using the same weapon for years or after killing countless foes?

Rogue Trader is a game of macro acquisitions, obtaining a single new gun is absolutely nothing (unless it's unbelievably rare). It strikes me as cool to have a character whose weapon has become an extension of their own body. To own a weapon who has taken the lives of hundreds of enemies in the hands of the character could warrant a +5 towards WS or BS, regardless of its craftsmanship or quality.

What would have to be achieved before other GM's would grant such a bonus?

I don't see why you couldn't choose to reward players twith a 'signature weapon' and a bonus along with that.

I think the player would have to use that weapon regularly and have accomplished some really spectacular or unlikley feat using that weapon.

...Didn't we have this exact thread like two weeks ago?

Yah, it was double posted then. Seems someone dug it up.

I still vote for Proven (2) or better. A nice weapon trait that doesn't really reflect craftsmanship, at the time of making, as much as a weapon that has seen action, been tinkered with and twinked, and so on. Not sure how often it should be given, or if it should just be "pay x XP to purchase it, like Psy Rating talents.

A nice addition to any weapon used in extensive battle versus the minions of Chaos, or perhaps in the protection of an influential member of the Adeptus Ministorum, would be the appropriate blessing ceremonies and purity seals to become sanctified. A dedicated servant of the Emperor, showing the purest dedication in His holy might, may infuse their weapon with an infinitesimal portion of their divine faith. In this manner even a lowly musket or club may become an Anointed Weapon (Daemon Hunter: Page 77). The latter of these options is, at maximum, a once in a century occurrence and should only be provided after a unique display of faith and selfless devotion to the creed of the Imperium.

Something a bit more devious, usually picked up unknowingly during a brief flicker of the Geller Field, could be a malignant entity. Seeking to spread pain and suffering they attach themselves to something almost guaranteed to be brought into battle as often as possible, this being the players favorite armament. The Warp Weapon special quality (Black Crusade: Page 152) would be a temptingly powerful, yet spiritually ruinous, property and an almost assured death sentence if any Imperial officials ever found out.

Actually, this sounds perfect to me, and exactly in keeping with why you keep going back to the same weapon.
