Since I am looking into purchasing, am I right to understand from different posts that the only thing that is updated in the card pack is the point cost of certain older walkers, Heros, and squads as well as "C" for close combat replacing "1" on certain weapon lines?

For the most part yes those are the only updates; however, the pack also contains 2 misprinted cards Kommandotrupp and Action Jackson. The former has the unit name Spelled Kommandotruppe and the later has a second close combat weapon in place of its second phaser.

Better to look up the Erratas online and spend the $15 on a unit box.

Yeah, just get some Tippex or round stickers and add the current points system to the old cards, you might also need more than one card when playing anyway, so might as well mod all your old ones. You don't even need to do that either as the points don't effect play.

Card pack is misprinted, though there's nothing really wrong with the name "Kommandotruppe", it's just different from what's written in the box.

I still don't understand needing to change 1 to C. Its still an adjacent square. I guess they just want to clarify that you can't throw your fist up to a 3rd story window.

For our knowledge I found the points updates online.

There's a big difference between a range 1 and C weapon. C weapons ignore cover and allow the target to retaliate simultaneously with their C weapons.
