Hero Census Data: A Deck Building Reference Tool

By juicebox, in Strategy and deck-building

Hi Everybody,

For the purpose of creating various theme decks and what not, I thought it would be fun to have a consolidated organized listing of heroes by various traits. Please feel free to help me out with this project if you have more ideas for groupings. As long as there’s interest, I can keep this post updated as we receive more heroes. (Note: Heroes who have been previewed but are yet to be released are listed in italics .)

Just added census data for Elrohir, as spoiled earlier today in Heroes in The Redhorn Gate, Part Three .

Hi Juicebox,

Great list of statistics! Thanks for assembling it!

Careful not to confuse Keywords with Traits though.

Keywords in this game are Ranged, Sentinel, Doomed X, etc.

Traits are Silvan, Ranger, Hobbit, etc.

So, perhaps replacing the label Keywords with Traits for that list and then putting Keywords showing who is Ranged, Sentinel, etc would be more accurate in identifying who has what.

Great job and thanks for the post!

good idea, very useful to see them all laid out in different catagories

as for the card text thats a difficult one- maybe list by how they interact by the game- so

by +/- stats (elrohir, dain, eowyn, gimli)

by damage (thalin)

by card draw (bilbo, beravor)

by threat increase/reduction (dwalin)

by hit point increase/reduction (frodo, glorfindel)

by resource management (bifur, gloin, theodred)

by readying (imrahil, aragorn, brand, boromir)

by progress tokens (legolas)

by attacking (dunhere)

by deck changing (denethor)

by effect cancellation (elanor)

think thats them all

I guess frodo and elrohir would also fit into these categories.....

Thanks Bomb! Good catch. I'll fix the Traits category first, as that's a quick fix.

And I'll add the proper Keyword category soon.

Keywords added. gui%C3%B1o.gif

richsabre and muemakan... great ideas. I'll play with those and update that portion soon too. Thanks!

Thanks again you two... I have played around with these and updated the thread. Certainly open to feedback and making ongoing adjustments if there are more refined ways of articulating the special abilities. Seems like a good start though. gran_risa.gif

NIce list.

You may want to consider adding a * in the Stats section to indicate heroes with variable stats. I'm thinking especially of Elrohir right now, who is either a 1 or 3 defense character depending on the context.

Managing all the exceptions is the hardest part with these type of lists.

Under thematic, I'm surprised you didn't consider the most basic of all: The Fellowship of the Ring! (Too bad we probably won't ever have a Gandalf hero... 3 players using all 9 members would make for a cool gang)

Good luck!

Great ideas SiCK_Boy!

As for Elrohir, I'll try something really specific for now. How does that seem? If things start getting combo-crazy, I may have to revert things back to an * to indicate a more general "variable."

Also, for Thematic Hero Combinations, I really just meant to get the ball rolling. That way brilliant minds like yourself can come along and add your genius to the mix. gran_risa.gif

Hopefully, over time, we can get a good, long, fun, creative list going.

great idea there. if you decide to use this it opens up all sorts of possibilites, but of course it depends on how far you want to go grouping by theme, there could be

-what book(s) they are in

-some sort of general personality grouping- not sure exactly how but sort of like:

- aggressive (gimli,boromir)

- wise (glorfindel,bilbo,gandalf)

- calm (frodo,haldir, gloin)

- light hearted - i cant think of any other word to describe this (legolas, merry, pippin- those types of characters)

- mighty (aragorn, dain, brand, imrahil)

- stout (sam, other dwarf characters)

- stubborn (eowyn, denethor)

you get the idea, its just speculation, the obvious problem is that it is very vague and it probably needs more heros to fill the gaps

I think under "Traits" there should be "Hobbit" listed (Bilbo, Frodo)

Angus Lee said:

Angus, you are right! I'll add that. Thanks!

And richsabre, I'm thinking themes should be more concrete and objective (more like your "book groupings" idea as opposed to the more subjective personality traits ideas). That's my thought. Like a Rohan deck... that could be another "theme." In fact, I'll add that right now. gui%C3%B1o.gif

For the "book specific" groupings... care to help me think those through? Do we have enough for:

The Hobbit:

The Fellowship of the Ring:

The Two Towers:

The Return of the King:

i guess so though the problem there may be that alof the characters appear in all 3 of the trilogy, so there would be alot of multiple goupings, also it depends if you intend 'mentioned' to mean was in that book ie brand, otherwise youd be left over with either placing him in the appendices- which may have to be added in the future, or leaving him out, also you would be left over the FFG created ones- but to give it a go-

Hobbit (bilbo, gloin,dain, dwalin, bifur)

Fellowship (bilbo, frodo, gloin, gimli, legolas, boromir, aragorn, glorfindel, elrohir, brand, dain)

Towers (eowyn, theodred,frodo,aragorn, legolas, gimli

Return (Dunhere,Imrahil, denethor, frodo, bilbo, aragorn, gimli, legolas, elrohir)

FFG created (elanor, thalin, beravor)

sorry if ive forgot any

Okay, finally getting around to updating...

richsabre, thanks for your help with remembering who is in which book. I like the idea of including whoever was mentioned in each book as well as adding a separate Appendix section. Why not? So, I'm pretty sure my Appendix section is incomplete. Anyone want to help me identify the other heroes mentioned in the Appendix?

Also, what other fun "theme" hero decks could we slap up here? Would it be too redundant to make a "theme" for each of the different traits (like Rohan)? Or maybe I should take down "Rohan" as a theme and let the Traits section speak for itself?

well ill go through proper but i think just about everyone (tolkien created obviously not ffg characters) is in the appendices/timeline at some point, even if its just a passing mention

what type of sub-themes had you in mind?

Thanks richsabre...finally getting back over here.

For sub-themes, I'm thinking of ideas that could come right out of plot lines from the books (like the Three Hunters). Totally interested to see what we can come up with.

So, I'll update the Appendix, and then... we've got a new hero to add too! gran_risa.gif

Just added census data for...
