The gorillas without Markus, the hero that comes with SeeLowe, are not all that great. I'd go with the Zombies instead, they handle themselves better on their own. Grim Reapers are a good buy to balance it out for the allies.
Looking into buying---what should I get in addition to the revised core set?

It pains me to see someone having to buy separately Gunners, Recon Boys, Laser Grenadiers, medium walkers etc. You'll spend a LOT of money trying to recreate the original core set. I'd really put an effort into finding one of those instead.
Agreed. He should buy things other than the OcS materials with his credit then save up the $120 or so for the OCS.

I will see if I can talk my wife, (who has the nice camera and is the better photographer) if she can take a couple of pics later today. I am no master modeler, so it's mostly just a beat up box car with some darker paintings and washings along with rust and a little bit of red (blood) things written on. The red paint was old and a little gloppy, but I was thinking on the one side, it would be as if the gorillas wrote it! Then I took an awl to it and put several holes in it and scratched it some. It looks a little dented near the doors.
"Sounds broken!"
Yes, but I'm sure it was nice.
Hey Zjb12! First off, you're entering an awesome world with DT. You'll have so much fun with this game with your boys. Like many others i'll recommend searching around for an Original Core set, it is worth the money.
I was lucky enough to find an Original Core set for under 95CAD in mid-january. From there...I was struck with the upgrade fever! To this day I bought:
O-coreset, Upgrade card pack (got it new for under 11CAD), Terrain tile pack (for bigger maps and got it for 19CAD at my FLGS). Then I just couldn't stop and bought The Boss (Allies Command squad), Kommandotrupp (Axis Command squad). A week later I didn't had enough and got 1 additionnal Medium Walker packs for Axis and Allies to add Artillery in our battles. Now I said "I have enough, let's play a bit". Another week past that point, I bought 10 ammo crates and 6 tank traps off eBay plus the Tank Busters for the Allies and the Zombies for the Axis. A couple days later I ordered the Grim Reapers for the Allies and the Special Ops Grenadiers for the Axis. That wasn't enough so earlier this week I bought Op. Cerberus and ordered the Hammers and Rhino for the Allies, Lara for the Axis and bought the Heavy Recon Grenadiers from my FLGS.
What I wanted to achieve is to have 2 armies with different/unique playstyles. Each army already has it's strong points like Axis with it's range firepower and Allies with it's mobility (speed, jump) and close combat/short range attacks. I bought the other packs with that in mind like giving the Sniper/Observers to the Axis and getting the Hammers for the Allies. But I also wanted to strenghten a bit their weak points and gave the Zombies to the Axis and the Grim Reapers for the Allies. They still have different "flavors" and playstyle.
Now i'm starting to think that I have "enough" units to play with
So it all ends up on how patient you are and what you want to make of the game. It's pretty modular and can be played in many ways. Customise maps and missions, add buildings and other 3D structures, etc. One of the major points this game has for me is it's quick setup. You're ready to play in under 5-10 minutes most of the time.
Enjoy DT!
So my wife took pics with her new camera, but hasn't yet downloaded them, because she hasn't yet done that with this camera! So hopefully over the weekend! Picked up some paints and brushes today. Still haven't got my credit processed through yet, so I am either going to end up making some scenery in the meantime or possibly try painting miniatures by using some of my kids old plastic army men!

Hey! Thanks for the note! I have a limited budget, (we have 5 kids---so we always have a limited budget!!!). So for now, I am going to have to go with an RCS, and then I am thinking a medium walker for each side, and possibly the tile set to get started. Then I might add the grim reapers and zombies after that! I really want to get Ceberus for the 3D building, but might have to be patient and use the tank traps and ammo crates that come with the RCS for now. I might also make some scenery with some old O and HO railway stuff I have/inherited from others.
Try the kids green plastic army men. Wash them with soap and water thenPrime them first though. Black is my preference for primer.
Krylon Camoflauge Ultra Flat Black. ~$4 a can at Walmart.
Tried painting a couple of plastic army men tonight. Considering I am typically no artist, I'd say for plastic army men, they look bettere already. My weakness right now is fine detail, as it would be for anyone new at this. I think I am going to need to get some number 2 brushes tomorrow at the local railroad/hobby store. Also took some old railroad supports, painted them andpainted some copper wire in the from of razor wire over the weekend and connected them to use as some type of wall barrier/structure. Also two 9x9 cm sceneery squares. Ordered the zombies today, but still waiting for my major credit at another site. Ugh!!!
I'm sure the wait is killing you. But once you get your $100 bunch you'll still want more, so don't expect the feeling to go away anytime soon.
I might, I just might have an opportunity to get the original core set tomorrow for 29% off of $99.99 if I can figure it out in our budget and get down to the store to pick it up first thing at 10am!!!
I would sell bodily fluids for it at that price.
Got it! Under $76!!!
Altrough i don't know what i would do with that grats to you:D
@Lska: hey! Thanks!
Pyschostevo: my credit came in last night too, so between credits from two different stores and the great sale I hit yesterday, basically for around $100 total and 18 star wars minis I traded, I will get the OCS, RCS, axis zombies, operation cyclone, the card pack upgrade, and the tile set.
Did you trade into MM? If so I have a $5 off $100 coupon I could PM.
Ditch the card pack and tileset. Get minis that's 3 more squads you could get. Early on the squads will be more valuable.
