Rule Verification - When Moving to Gate with Monsters

By RPCVYemen, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I re-read the rule again last night, and I think maybe I have been playing incorrectly - I am a new player.

Up until now, when I moved to a gate that had a monster on it, I thought I would get drawn immediately to the other world (i.e., without fighting or evading the monster(s)). As I re-read the rules, I think that was wrong. It looks to me like this is the right way:

1) Arkham Movement: Land on gate -must fight or evade monster(s) on gate.

2) Arkham Encounter: Now is when the investigator gets drawn through the gate to the left area of the Other World.

3) Other Worlds Encounter: Since the investigator was sucked through to left area of the Other World, he or she now has an Other World Encounter

Is this correct?

Mike

Correct. Now, if the investigator comes through the Other World back to Arkham, they will be able to close/seal the gate before having to deal with the monsters

That's correct. Combat occurs during the Movement phase and has to be resolved first, even if there is a gate there. An investigator only enters a gate during the next phase, the Arkham encounter phase, if there is no "explored" marker under the investigator. The only exception is when an investigator has returned from the other world (and got the "explored" marker): the investigator gets a "free" turn without Combat, even if there are monsters at his location.
