Custom Unit Thread! - With Images and a story

By Maximum2, in Dust Tactics

I figured since my "Core Set Conundrum" thread seems to be turning into a Custom Unit thead might as well begin one here and redirect from that one.

So we'll start off with a bit of a repost AND then something really special with a story to boot.

I decided that I wasn't in love with the APES or Markus and never purchased the Operation Seelowe expansion as a result. So having 2 Revised Core Sets I figured it would be possible to make a custom unit for my wife based on "OZZ 117". Here is where its at right now.

My wifes custom female OZZ 117 unit, a work in progress!

It was assembled from the head of Lara and the body of Rhino, then cutting off a flamethrower infantry backpack and flamethrower, gluing them together using the Heavy Corps as a reference and finally giving it a quick paint job to get it to the table for tonight. gran_risa.gif

Next up was Captain America.

Captain America, also a Work in Progress.

He was made from a "pointing infantry" model and the head was from a Hero Clix figure named "Red Guardian" with the arm/shield coming from another Hero Clix figure named, you guessed it, Captain America. Both the Mini's are commons and were under a dollar each.

Now for something new and a bit of a story to go with it, enjoy!

The war was should have been over by now but it wasn't, history changed so the fighting continues. It is February 18th - 1947.

It was getting late when Major General Arnold Kühner Herrscher recieved the message, "they" had been spotted just outside the city walls. He knew that he only had minutes to prepare as up until this point all encounters with "them" had ended in complete defeat and almost no trace of the conflict.

Earlier that week a shipment of the new experimental Class 3 VK powered troop armor had arrived, sent from Sigrid Von Thaler herself; whom Arnold had only met once in person, and an equally experimental multi shot weapon as well. These weapons were not necessary against the SSU and Allied threat, their appearance was obviously intended for something more.

Just then the sirens started and the sky began to darken, there were no clouds, however something was blocking the sun. Then in a blinding flash of light Arnolds entire company was torn to ribbons. He could just faintly see the enemy in the distance. Taking refuge in a trench they had dug just hours ago he picked up one of the new Flak Cannons, stood up, aimed and then fired..... Nothing, the flak bounced right off "it" barely slowing its movement as it continued to murder his own men without hesitation.

This simply couldn't be happening, tests had shown the weapon to be incredibly powerful there was only one weapon more powerful than that but it was attached to a now nearly completely destroyed Luther they had been repairing.

Run!

With its build The Class 3 armor made the trek to the defunct walkers location slow but Arnold pressed on, he just hoped that the armors internal hydraulics would be enough to wield the 5cm Cannon..... It was.

Come get some!

There was not even enough time to fire it before "they" showed up.

Yes those are Dark Eldar from a million years ago, well spotted!

This was some sort of Bezerker class infantry and they seemed determined to attack him at close range. However that wasn't in the cards. ***

EAT LEAD!

He pulled the trigger, the cannon fired, almost completely deafening Arnold....

The End. sorpresa.gif

*** As Arnold had the initiative for the round! gui%C3%B1o.gif

Since "Arnold" was just created a few hours ago I have not gotten around to painting him up yet but I figured this would be a fun start to the thread. gran_risa.gif

Do you have a clearer and closer pic of mini? I would like to see its construction please it looks quite creative.

Glad to see I'm not the only one having fun.

We need biger pics! Are those eldar warriors? :D

I'll post some bigger pictures once I get Arnold painted up to playable quality. In other news my wifes - "OZZ 117" custom shown above won her the first scenario we played last night coupled with the Tank Busters. The objective was to reach a certain square which ended the mission and she did so with 2 hp left, it all came down to the first activation after a nail biting initiative as my Lothar would've sustained fired her into oblivion.

@ Psykostevo - Indeed lots of fun. I'm not a big fan of the Axis Flak teams so cutting one of my two RCS squads up works for me. I've got some ideas for the other two as well. cool.gif

@ Lska - Yep those are some Dark Eldar warriors I had sitting in a box from the year 1998 or 1999, at the time my friends and I tried to get into Warhammer but the cost + codex shennanigans kept us away. MAN if only this game had been available back then.

Had some time to work on "Arnolds" paint job so here's some pictures I took so far, not completely done with it yet I think. Also bigger images to show how sloppy of a painter I am, haha.

Arnold as of Feb 19th

Now THAT is a BIG gun.

NOTE: That part on his back (go go recycling walker arm joint bits!) is intended to be a shortened antenna transmitter unit. Also you can't see it in the pictures, but his 'eyepatch' is actually painted with a shiny emerald paint which depicts that it is some kind of optics for seeing long ranges for the Artillery Strikes.

Stat-Wise he will have 4 health and the same weapon stats as the Luthers weapon that he is carrying and thats it, no close combat attack or some random hidden handgun. As for his Abilities he will have the Damage Resilience and Artillery Strike (thanks to his transmitter on his back previously mentioned) Lastly points-wise I'm thinking about 28 at this point since he will be the first Unlimited Ranged hero. gran_risa.gif

Whoa, U hero for 28 sounds cheap;)

Also just for fun he schould have some C attack, like gun swap or sth:D

Whoot that's rediculously cool!

@ Lska - Decided in the end to go with 8 for his range instead of U, I figure thats about as far as a typical unit could see/aim without mechanical assistance. I guess in Close Combat he could do what enemies do to Superman when they run out of bullets and throw the gun.... With its weight I'd put the damage at 1/3. lengua.gif

@ KillaRr - Thanks, going to post some custom cards for them for fun once Captain America is done.

I think my goal of making an alternative Axis Armor 3 hero to "Lara" has been achieved with "Arnold". I also have always dug Lost Planet 1 and 2 of allowing the character to pull a single huge weapon off the mech so that was also a bonus. As mentioned I never bought Seelowe due to my zero interest in the "APE ESCAPE!" squad. partido_risa.gif I'm sure they're quite fun to play but I think I will hit up the Zombies as a weird alternative to regular humans first and paint them to look like Allied and SSU prisoners; just have to wait for that Hero Pack to hit for Grenadier X's stats.
