New Player's Clarification of Support (Titles)

By redspook, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Just started getting some regulars together to play and today was the first 4 player set we could get together. We ran into a few issues, most of which I already found answers to in the forum (thanks to all) but I have a question regarding the Support fuction for Titles.

I get that you can take the place of the defender in an undefended challenge of a Title you Support and I get the mechanics of it regarding card text and responsibility of the losing end..but my question is this:

Why do it? What benefit does the player who Supports the challenge gain? You gather an extra Power for attacking an Opposed title...did I overlook the bonus to defending a Supported title?

Thanks in advance,

Red.

There's a few reasons to Support another player.

First, if an opponent will win, or put themselves into a place to win by attacking a weak opponent that you support, you can possibly delay their victory, making sure that you get another turn or two.

Second, if you win as a supporter, you get to trigger any abilities that could for winning a challenge. Including Renown.

Thanks for input...we didn't get too far in (still trying at lunch breaks) so the blocking of opponent's advancement didn't readily appear as an advantage but I completely overlooked the Reknown ability.

Sometimes there are additional bonuses you can trigger to winning a challenge too. Like Make an Example which lets you claim 3 power if you win a challenge and count 8 or more total STR. Superior Claim let's you claim 2 power if you win a POW challenge by 4 or more STR.

There are dozens of effects like those that do different things, so supporting a player not only keeps an opponent from winning a challenge, but you can benefit from it at the same time.
