Hi,

I've admired the game for a while now and just bought the Revised Core Set. What would people recommend I buy next? I am interested in buying similar units for the Axis and Allies at the same time to keep my collection competitive. I've tried looking for an original box set and these are impossible to find so please just recommend expansion set units. Thanks in advance for your advice.

We need some FAQ thread about this;) Evry now and then many ppl has similar problem:D On your place i would still look for the old core set. The rest depends on what are you looking for this game. More strategic options and planning? Go for comand squads and medium walkers - you will get arty fire. Next you schould think about snipers. More fun stuff and powerfull units? Go for allied tank busters, grim reapers and german monkeys and zombies. Then get op sealowe to have some heroes for them. Also consider getting the terrain pack or making your own tiles as the rcs board won't do you much good connected with old expansions. If you think you lack armor go for light and medium walkers. They will give you a ton of variety in armor units.

All in all : you have played the game. You feel it now. You need to decide yourself what you want;) If there is still a problem specify what are you looking for, what aspects of the game you want to develop.

Sound advice from Lska.

Personally I'd go with Command Squad, either the normal ones or the new Heavy ones. Also don't try buy anything you think isn't inline with what you think you will use and actually play with, obvious enough ;) If you are the only one buying then it is a good idea to keep the sides balanced, as you seem to want to do already.

I thiknk you should avoid the heavy walkers for a while, until you have a greater army and more tiles.

Agreed on hevies, altrough i don't have them myself;)

Also remember the GOLDEN RULE!

Don't buy too much stuff at once! Dose the pleasure and your new hobby will give you much more fun! :D

I agree with the posts so far, grab the Infantry 2 or 3 command squads they are simply too much fun. To balance out the Revised Core set a bit I would add the Tank Busters for the Allies, the Grim Reapers are pretty cool but you'll likely want something that deals with vehicles for the Allies rather than the Reapers. The Cerberus expansion is my next suggestion, both the heroes are alot of fun to play with and mesh well with the Revised Core than add Sniper/Observer teams eventually as well as both Medium Walker boxes (which will get you Artillery or the other configurations) Wait a bit to grab the heavies, I know its tempting but you need a good amount of forces otherwise you'll have games with one player having a heavy and 2 other units which IS fun but can end either really well or really poorly, haha.

The best thing about Dust Tactics is you've got alot of directions to take your game, if you don't mind using proxies you can find all the unit stats online if you look on Dust-models and goto more details to see if the unit is worth ordering.

Thanks for the advice on the HQs. I was thinking about infantry of some kind to balance things out, perhaps the Tankbusters for the Allies?

I have also ordered both Medium Walkers and will magnetize them with rare earth magnets.

Anzac, thanks for posting, I am looking to purchase soon too, so this fits in well with my own post from today. And thanks to all who responded, for those of us who are new or planning to buy, it really helps!

This is an exciting thing to see other new players still joining up. We are having an official Dust Day here in Phoenix on Saturday and it will be my first time playing. I have convinced 2 stores to carry Dust in my area so far with a little help. And have purchased locally as well. While I enjoy my bulk purchases online for discounts, I still enjoy my little shopping at friendly stores paying full retail price. I only bought what wasn't available locally online. If you pay where you play your hobby will likely prosper too.

Half of that was probably unrelated to your thread.

I've only been playing DT since about November. Fortunately for me, I found an original (4 med. walker) Core Set for $90 US (The same place I got it from now sells them for twice that much). Just to round out my initial purchase, I also bought the Special Ops teams (Sniper/observer) for both Axis & Allies.

About a month ago I purchased an additional med. walker for both factions, as well as Grim Reapers, another Recon Grenadier squad & the Revised Core Set. Also at a recent con, I won a premium Hermann, so I bought an Allied Light Walker to even out my armies.

All in all, I've got PLENTY of units now (about 400 AP each side) and since I've been making my own 3D buildings, walls, etc., it's enough to make just about any kind of home brew scenarios I want to run.

My advice is to buy units evenly like I did, and stagger out the purchases once you've got a feel for what you already have. This is not only to have similar armies, but also to be a more well-rounded player since each faction has its own strengths & weaknesses. If you favor the Allies, the best way to learn how to win with them is to get to know the Axis units, and vice versa.

Hope this helps!
