Questions on 2 Baratheon cards

By Thanos Voidseeker, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi, just a couple of quick questions.

King Robert's Hammer (Location): "If it is Summer or Winter, kneel King Robert's Hammer." Does this mean that it remains knelt permanently, or that it kneels when the situation changes to Summer or Winter?

Ser Davos Seaworth: " Response : Kneel Ser Davos Seaworth to save an attachment from being discarded from play. Then attach it to another eligible target, if able" Can I use this ability to save an attachment from a character that has been killed? In the moribund state perhaps?

Thanks.

  1. The condition is checked continuously (there is no "when", "after" or "before" point of initiation), which means that, as long as it is summer or winter, the location gets knelt continuously. There is no point in standing it before making the condition false, because it would just be knelt again.
  2. When a card (not only a character) becomes moribund, all of its attachments become moribund (discard) as a passive effect. As with any effect that makes a card moribund, you have an opportunity to save each of these attachments (as a save response). Once the action window closes, all moribund cards go to their respective destination and nothing can stop that.

Say you have attachment A on character C and Davos standing. character C dies (for military claim, say) - he actually becomes moribund (dead pile). When it comes for the time to resolve passives (in this case, after renown and unopposed have been dealt with - see flowcharts in the FAQ), one of them will be that attachment A will become moribund (discard). Between the moment the game "notices" that and the moment it "reacts", you get the opportunity for a save/cancel response. Davos' response fits in there, because it has the word "save" in it. Note that if Davos himself was the character being killed, you could use his response to save one of his attachments (assuming he was standing and you had another eligible character, of course), because moribund cards can still be used to trigger effects or pay for costs (as long as you don't try to make them moribund again).

Ok thanks a lot, I thought that was the case, but I had to make sure.

While the practical result is no different from what Khudzlin said, keep in mind that the location does stand and kneel. So if you have a Response to "after a location stands..." or "after a location is knelt...", you could use it.
