Anti-psyker tools?

I know the original topic was "tools" but to me instead of rooms full of intricate and rare technology or highly modified field generators... if I were a paranoid noble/govenor I'd just seek out and employ some Untouchables to follow me around and perhaps be trained as bodyguards.

I'll be running a game soon with my first psyker player and we did some dry runs with his character so that we'd both understand the rules and to be honest he sorta scares the **** out of me. I'll have some Untouchables up my sleeve to make things uncomfortable for him you can bet on that!

Don't be scared - for a Psyker at pre-ascension level to really own the show they need to be pushing or hyper focusing their XP expenditures. The later makes them a mono-task character that won't get in the way of other specialists, while the former makes them a walking chaos incursion time-bomb. Perils galore.

Semi Spoiler Alert for The First Heretic

Adding to the discussion of Gellar Fields you learn in The First Heretic that the Emperor used Gellar Fields within the chamber where he created the Primarchs. I don't want to say more than that because that would be a bigger spoiler, but they are used in areas other than vessels.

The thing about using untouchables is that they are incredibly rare.

Much rarer than psykers.

Even if you're planetary Governor of a medium-population world, you're not going to be guaranteed to have one available.

Will I use it once to mess with our Psyker, yes of course!

But will everyone and their dog have a personal little Null? No.

A planetary governor may only have absolute control over their own planet however the wealth and resources that entail would allow them a great edge in negotiations with other planets, trade guilds and shady types. As such i would reason that a governor without scruples might have engaged some human trafickers and bounty hunters to obtain a number of nulls for use in their personal guard (i'd still argue no more than a half a dozen but that sounds fair for a governor of a hive or industrial planet... an agri, deathworld, barren etc governor may only be able to get 1 if at all, it entirely depends on yoru setting).

IIRC Eisenhorn had up to fourty nulls of varying strength at his college at one point. Just a thought.

However, even if there are no untouchables around, most paranoid governors can probably afford an Assassin or two who have Forbidden Lore: Psykers. Or even psykers of their own.

"But Lord Scaredy Pants, that 'man' is rumoured to be a wytch".

"Well it takes a wytch to catch a wytch Thompson, so shut up and put him on the payroll."

"Ca ca catch a wh wh wytch my Lord?"

"The dirty mutants are everywhere I tell you Thompson... everywhere!"

There is one other thing that keeps most Psykers in line regardless of their particular stripe. That being one of the temples of the Officio Assassinorum. This Temple trains and fields the famed, feared and loathed Cullexus Assassin. They are trained from the rare warp null peoples and are equiped with some rather nasty Psy based equipment from Psy-cannons to Psyche out grenades.
