A few pointers for a new GM and player

By Coren3, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Hi guys, it's ym 1st post and my 1st stab at old fashioned RPGs.

I've always been a WH40K fan, played the tabletop as Imperial Guard, Dark Angels and Slaanesh armies. My girlfriend has recently taken a liking to the universe, and so we decided to give Dark Heresy a go. I read the rules, both for GM and player, but still there's a couple of things that I'd apreciate your input on :)

1) The page 215 of the core rulebook says how to regard wight limits (TB+SB), but also says that you can basically carry anything you want since it considers that everyone can fight without being too encumbered. How does it go then? Do we buy a backpack to store 50Kgs worth of stuff, or do we consider everyone has no limits?

2) Can we sell items we pick up? I was going for selling items half price if they are picked up from cultists and the like, since they don't take care of their gear, and maybe more if it's good quality (since shops sell "common" quality goods).

3) Since it's mostly going to be played by the 2 of us, is it feasible for me to be GM AND a player, while keeping an exterior look on things? Initially we were going to play 2 chars each, but we decided it would be hard for beginers to juggle 2 each, so we went for her using an Arbitrator, and me a Tech Priest.

4) Do we earn extra wounds when we level up? I can't find anything mentioning this in the book. It simply states starting wounds, but nothing more.

5) I think I know how to be a goodish GM, I love to talk, I wrote short WH40K stories and people say I know how to make interesting plots, but I imagine I have to scale the missions depending on the number of players right?

6) Are there rules that you consider should be "ignored" for beginers just to get into the swing of things?

Off the top of my head, I guess that's all:) I apreciate any insight you share guys, thanks in advance:)

No specific rules that I know of. In this forum, it is discussed regukarky (search the forum, it is very interesting)

I personnaly don't see why not. As long as you have fun, the rest is up to you.

On your carrier path, you have a talent that gives you extra wounds. You can take it many time, therefore it is your choice to increase your wounds.

I play with 5 players, I have to experience with 1. But I imagine that you'll have to scale down your missions. More investigation, less fight, lots of contacts in order to have access to what your player doesn't have (knowledge, firepower, ...)

The edge of Darkness (free scenario) has a basic rule in it. You can start with that and concentrate with the plot. It could be a good start.

Enjoy the game

Thank you for the answers:) I think, for now, we'll stick to no weight limit when it comes to armor and weapons we are using (unless we suddenly have to lug around a lascannon or heavy bolter), but the extra stuff we find counts as weight.

I'll go into it with the aim to have fun obviously, and not trying to obliterate our acolytes too quickly :D This is going to be great.
