Hello All!
So I was very nervous about hosting my second Rl Session, but I am glad to say it went VERY well! Everybody quite enjoyed themselves: the investigation was fast based and interesting, the fights were all gritty - (One crazy ex-soldier at the beginning of the mission almost destroyed FOUR acolytes by making use of Overwatch and Auto-fire [the fact that the Psyker rolled Energy Overload on the Perils and hit everybody for 1d10+5 damage, except the bad guy who too far away and the untouchable who was rushing towards him helped quite a bit! Two players spent the rest of the fight aiming their guns at the Psyker instead of the suspected Cultist
])
On Gunmetal City, I had set a trap for my "Kick down the door approach" in the form of Proper Etiquette when dealing with a certain Armourer belonging to the Fykos Forge, luckily my players had the foresight to investigate local customs and cultures beforehand thus avoiding duels to the death or maiming [though I may have inadvertently hinted at the necessity of doing such things...]
After chasing down leads to a Suspected Khorn Cultist, they finally manage to capture her- alive! Time for some questioning, and probably the most memorable scenes in the entire game (the players are STILL talking about!).
They want to know where the temple of Khorn is, so they rough her up some: but she's a veteran, survived the war and a masochist: she enjoys it. She doesn't want to tell them where the temple is, cause they arent worthy... It takes the players a few moments to put it together: she doesn't care whose blood flows, his or theirs or anybody- as long as it does.
One of the players, the most puritan one obviously, is OUTRAGED at the idea: Bleeding her FOR KHORN??? Craziness! Heresy! The guardsmen agrees with him. The Psyker is so so.. The Untouchable assassin thinks they should do it- she's going to give them the address, and its not like they are doing for Khorn. The Tech-priest, a secret radical [Warp-touched] Says nothing, but waits quietly. After 15 minutes of Rl arguments decrying the act or pushing for it, the puritan gets an idea: go back to the tricorn, get some drugs, then come back and get her to talk that way. But its going to be a long flight back to Sibellus from Gunmetal City... He leaves anyways- but ten minutes later, he gets a Vox-call back to their base.
When he gets back, the Cultist is dead- blood everywhere, her head's been fried with a laz-gun. Not to mention, the others now have the address... The atmosphere was great- paranoia and distrust. They raid the temple, get into a REALLY cool fight with a Daemonic Brass Armour and Seven Khorn cultists that they only beat because of a homemade Promethium Bomb and an explosion backed by the Emperor with TWO righteous Furies (Man, 37 energy damage that manages to hit 6 of the cultists and the Pysker, who burns a fate point.).
They capture the last heretic alive and bring him back to the Tricorn for questioning- but the Assassin had lost an Eye to the armor, and along with the guardsman the vast majority of his wounds. While they are the hospital, the puritan players questions them until they give up who was responsible for the earlier transgression... Tension abound! With a Psyker whose invoked perils, and a Tech-priest who, to some, has very nearly worshiped Khorn, and untouchable that has so far screwed over the cell's ability to use the psyker and hindered THEM more so then any enemy...
Next time, they are headed over into Space! Warp Travel! They already know all Hell is going to break loose on that ship- I am sure they are all looking forward to it.
In any case, has anybody encountered moral issues like this in their games? (Bleeding a Khornate cultist and playing into his hand, a moral victory for the enemies of mankind...) The best part, it was completely improved on my part and it had quite the impact! Who knew!
