Strength reduced by card effect

By plebeianmaw, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Effects like King's pavilion's raise a character's strength through a card effect. If the condition is no longer met (Character no longer standing)it's strength is reduced. Is this considered 'reduced by a card effect' for cards like Killer of the wounded?

In other words, would Killer of The Wounded stand each time it's knelt under the effects on King's Pavilion?

Failing to meet the conditions of a card which grants additional strength to characters under certain conditions, is not the same as having a character's strength reduced by a card effect. Any card effect that specifically reduces a character's strength (as opposed to no longer raising it) would count. Having a character's strength raised, then no longer raised, would not count.

Specifically, reducing a card's STR means that a new -X STR modifier is applied. Losing an old +X STR modifier does not count.

This is because a card's STR, at all times, is the combination of the base STR (usually the printed STR) and all applicable modifiers. So you are always figuring out a card's STR from scratch, never in comparison to what the result was the last time you counted its STR.

So essentially, sInce the card's STR in round 2 is never dependent on what it was in Round 1, you cannot say it has been "reduced" based on a difference between the past and present effective STR.

Thanks guys. I was in a strange haze of dumb yesterday. It was somewhat like a seeping brain fart that lasted all day. The answer is obvious to me now, but thanks again :) King's pavilion still works very nice in combination with Killer of the Wounder Lyana and Blue lipped warlock. I think I'll put one in my targ deck to try it out.
