Search and Detain Plot

By Mykel The Vile, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi Chapos

Quick question.

Say if I have Roose Bolton out plus a dupe on him and on plot phase my opponant reveals search and detain. Can he take both Roose and dupe if he chooses as the plot says card cannot be saved.

Or does he just take 1 of the Roose cards and because it does not state Character ect the other Roose stays in play.

Basically what happens if opponant choose Roose Bolton who happens to have a dupe card.

Thanks

Duplicates do not count as attachments. Search and Detain says to choose a character without attachments, so Roose is a valid target. Also, since Search and Detained also says "cannot be saved" Roose goes to your hand and you lose the duplicate.

The duplicate is discarded when Roose is returned to your hand.

Keep in mind that you can choose the duplicate as your card choice and return the duplicate itself to your hand. You may want to do this to yourself if you become first player.

Just to correct mathlete's answer, Search and Detain in fact says to choose a card without attachments, not to choose a character. So you can pick an attachment or a location or even a dupe. As others have pointed out, choosing a dupe is only going to make sense in very situational contexts. What you probably want to do is bounce Roose; he'll return to the hand, and the dupe will be discarded.

Thanks Guys...
