Search and Detain Plot

By Mykel The Vile, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi Chapos

Quick question.

Say if I have 2 Roose Boltons out and on plot phase my opponant reveals search and detain. Can he take both Roose's if he chooses as the plot says card cannot be saved.

Or does he just take 1 of the Roose cards and because it does not state Character ect the other Roose stays in play.

Basically what happens if opponant choose one of my 2 Roose Bolton cards.

Thanks

Well, it would be kind of silly for your opponent to choose the card that is the dupe to return to your hand. It's legal, but it's a good way to accomplish nothing. The dupe would go to your hand, the original would stay, and you would just put the dupe out again in the Marshaling phase. The only reason I could see to do this is if a Valar had yet to be resolved.

In the far more likely scenario that your opponent chooses the character (not the dupe) to return to hand, the character goes to your hand and the dupe is discarded - same as any other situation where a duped character leaves play in a "cannot be saved" situation.

Never even considered picking the dupe before.

One reason I'd pick the dupe is if a Valar(or some other kill effect that can be saved from) has been revealed and my plot is chosen to resolve first.

Another reason to pick a dupe would be if you reveal the plot, but end up as First Player. So you pick your own dupe and place it out again in Marshaling. It's a great way to minimize the damage if you end up having to hit yourself.

Absolutely. High five!

Ooo, I like this dupe idea. Man I love Search and Detain, it's just so incredible versatile.

Thanks Guys....
