Carter of Mars

By David Spangler, in The Crystal Ball and The Wishing Well

With the new John Carter movie about to be released, isn't it time for FFG to consider doing a game based on one of the most acclaimed science fantasy adventure series of all times? Eric Goldberg and Mark Herman of SPI published a classic (though unfinished) board game on John Carter back in the late seventies. It was flawed but it truly captured the swashbuckling spirit of the Edgar Rice Burroughs' books, and the strategic game was excellent. Imagine now FFG doing their own version of this book series/movie/game (I think the book rights may be in the public domain, but not sure about that--they are nearly a hundred years old). Minis of four-armed giant green Tharks, of John Carter and the Incomparable Dejah Thoris, and of all the other monsters, men and near-men of Barsoom played on a gorgeous board. How wonderful!

Come on, FFG. John Cater needs a new incarnation in a game.
