Arkham Horror Guide for iPad

By sam31sd, in Fan Creations

I just wanted to put out there that I am working on a somewhat comprehensive guide to the Arkham Horror universe. I'm using iBooks Author, so it will be in the form of an iBook textbook for the iPad.

I start off the book with a look at the themes of Lovecraft and of the game, and I finish it with a look at the game and the expansions (I'll be talking about rules, gameplay, minutia, etc.)

Any suggestions of what I ought to include in the book would be great!

I would suggest contacting FFG first to make sure they're okay with you doing that (they very well might not be). Otherwise, you'll do a lot of hard work to finish it, finally post it to the Apple store, and it'll be quickly removed by FFG.

That's a very good idea. I had thought about copyright infringement and ways to avoid that. I've been including the sources of all of my information (a lot has come from the wiki site). I wouldn't be distributing it for commercial use; I have no intention of making money.

I'll be sure to contact them. In the meantime, do you have any suggestions of how I could avoid copyright infringement?

Well, don't use any copyrighted material. Simple as that. You can refer to things in the game specifically, but as soon as you use images or extended pieces of text (from cards or encounters), then you might very well have a problem.

Well, how does Arkham Horror Wiki get away with it?

It's a resource, not for sale. If the app is free, it may not be an issue, but regardless of that, FFG may want to do their own and wouldn't want that available.

It wouldn't be for sale; it would be absolutely free.

Just wanted to give an update.

I've contacted FFG and have asked permission to produce the book. They said if I wanted to use their logo, art, etc. I would have to enter a licensing agreement with them. As we speak, I am figuring out how to do that.
