...in the end, the lack of funds simply just spelled utter defeat.
The Investigators included Sister Mary, Leo Anderson, Amanda Sharpe, and Joe Diamond. Despite a relatively slow start (4 Gates in 8 turns, plus a "Double Doomer"), we found ourselves short on Clue tokens. Then, without warning, we were suddenly in possession on the Old Journal, a copy of The King in Yellow, and a few Clue Tokens thanks to Nodens! The Doom Track crept forward to nine as the team managde to seal the fifth Gate. Then it happened...Amanda entered the Gate to R'lyeh...and faced Cthulhu! She was Blessed and had a stack of Clue Tokens...unfortunately, she had an 'exhausted' Elephant Gun. With only a "4" Fight and a flask of Holy Water she only managed to damage the Great Old One, rolling 12 dice ("4" Fight, 8 Clue Tokens, and the +6 Holy Water - 6 vs. Cthulhu) and scoring 7 hits, before being devoured. Had she possessed $4...$4!!! she would have had the chance to fire-off that Elephant gun twice and surely would have defeated Cthulhu, returned to Arkham with a closed/sealed gate, and ending the game.
Instead, that proved to be the harbinger of doo, in the most literal sense. The next turn, a Gate Burst blew the sael at the Witch House and then the b=nxt card opened another gate which forces our heroes in a no-so-epic battlle against Yig. Everyone was Blessed...and while MAry could retain her Blessing, despite Yig's Anger, the guys lacked the firepower to make any real headway. It was a tragic terrible loss which could have been avoided by $4.
