So, my board fell apart...

By CenturionCajun, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I've been a long time fan of Lovecraft. Ever since I was a child I found his tales to be fascinating in how alien and terrifying they were. Perhaps reading that stuff as a small child explains how I ended up the way I am today. So, when I discovered there was an entire world on board and card games devoted to the Cthulhu mythos I jumped right on that. I decided to start with the big daddy of them all and get Arkham Horror.

When I received my copy in the mail yesterday I tore into it eagerly. Popped out all my little tokens and looked through all my cards. I even ordered card sleeves to keep them all nice and safe. Finally I go to unfold my board...and the bottom third falls off. This is the second game in a row from Fantasy Flight I've had some kind of board issue with. My very first product of theirs ever was when I bought the Game of Thrones 2nd Edition last month. That unfortunately had the miscut board that won't lay flat properly.

Now, I don't mean this to bash Fantasy Flight. So far I love everything about both Game of Thrones and Arkham Horror. They responded promptly to my inquiry for a replacement Game of Thrones board and I'm sure they'll do the same in this case. I was more curious if this were a commonplace issue with anyone else boards.

P.S. Even with the bottom third having to just be laid beside the other two-thirds I've already devoted about twelve hours to figuring out the rules and running some test games. Probably the most fun I've had gaming in years.

...things fall apart.

My board's in three pieces: bottom third, middle third and top third. It hasn't caused any problems, just minor annoyance when someone bumps the board by accident and you have to put them back together. Nothing serious.

Personally, I've never experienced or heard of any boards falling apart, in this or any other FFG game (until now, anyway). The company has excellent customer service (although, if certain reports are correct, it's in a state of disarray at the moment), so they should send you a new board. In the meantime, as Lebo says, you should be able to play just fine with the pieces placed next to each other.

Oh, I'm not being prevented from playing. I was just curious if this was a common issue in the same fashion as the Game of Thrones boards. I'm also rather amused at this point that the first two big board games I've bought have had...malfunctions.

So long as it doesn't interfere with your enjoyment, I'd seriously duct-tape them and game on!

That's Insane, but now you have the chance to reorganize Arkham!
