Hostile Acquisitions - Cold Trade Broker

By Fgdsfg, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

There's a bit of an oddity in Hostile Acquisitions, in relation to the Cold Trade Broker Alternate Career Rank.

First, it lists that Cold Trade Broker automatically gains the Enemy (Inquisition) Talent as "Special".

Then, as part of the "Benefits", it explains how the Cold Trader Trait allows one to choose whether to gain Enemy (Inquisition) or Enemy (Xenos) (as well as gain the benefits of either Peer (Xenos) or Hatred (Xenos) respectively).

I have the feeling the " Special: Cold Trade brokers automatically receive the Talent Enemy (Inquisition) " is simply a remnant of an earlier revision, before the Cold Trader Trait was finalized. Otherwise, the choice of the Cold Trader Trait really is no choice at all.

Overall, as written, I'm inclined to agree with you. I sort of thought that, as a rule, they should just get it, since it is a book filled with "and the Imperium will hate you, if they know what you do", and any dealing with that much xenotech would probably get the Inq to want your head. However, as a mechanic, I prefer the setup of "you choose Xenos or Inquisition as your enemy", since otherwise, there is no benefit to one side of the coin. "You want Enemy (Inquisition), or Enemy Inquisition AND Xenos)?" While I understand the OX hating the Cold Trade, as a system, this works, and we'll just ignore the Special entry, as just one more little typo.

I think there are two ways to handle this (both means a different typo on the Cold Trade Broker rules):

OPTION 1:

All Cold Trade Brokers start with Enemy (Inquisition).

If the Broker also trades with xenos, he gets Rival (Inquisition) as well, for a total of -20 to all social rolls with members of the Holy Ordos. Acolytes are probally on their way to find the character and stop his bussiness.

If you are a pillager, you also get Enemy (Xenos Race) like the rules say.

OPTION 2:

The whole "Special: Cold Trade brokers automatically receive the Talent Enemy (Inquisition)" sentence is a typo from a previous edition and should be ignored.

Sadly, I have a sneaky suspicion it's more the Option 1; nothing about the Cold Trade Broker, or most anything in Hostile Acquisitions, really smacks of getting along with His Holy Inquisition.
