noob questions

By Yenninho, in WFRP Rules Questions

Hi,

I want to buy WFRP but I don't know anything about it.

- How many players can participate a least?

- How long does the game take to play?

- Do you need to know the stories to play?

Thanks!!

Any number of players can play, especially if you use the Basic Actions sheet and Action Card Copy Sheet downloads

- How long does the game take to play? Anywhere from 1 hour to years worth of a campaign.

- Do you need to know the stories to play? As it's a roleplaying game, not a boardgame, you would need to learn how to roleplay game first. Making up stories for adventures really isn't that hard (my 5 year old makes dungeons for us to play in). That said however, roleplaying games work best if at least ONE person at the table has done it before :)

The most common thing in you will hear in a roleplaying game is: "What would you like to do now?

Players can attempt anything in roleplaying games. You're not constrained by a board, or rules, or anything. For example: The dwarf player says, "I'd like to go down to the tavern and ask if anybody has any thoughts on the missing farmers outside of town." The Gamemaster says, "OK, you go to the tavern. Its busy and you quickly find a gossipy group of human farmers. MAKE A CHARM ROLL to gossip with them. The player rolls and if he succeeds, the GM tells him some clues that the players can follow up on such as:

  • Theres a rumor that there are beastmen in the woods nearby
  • There have been strange sightings at trhe old crypt nearby
  • The family was checking out an old mine
  • Some say they left their belongings behind

I've been roleplaying gaming since I was 9 years old. As long as someone even puts rudimentary thought into a game, it's a blast.
