noob questions

By Yenninho, in WFRP Rules Questions

Hi,

I want to buy WFRP but I don't know anything about it.

- How many players can participate a least?

- How long does the game take to play?

- Do you need to know the stories to play?

Thanks!!

Those are fairly noobish indeed :)

I'd start maybe by this: WFRP is not a boardgame, but an RPG.
Take a look here for a basic introduction:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Role-playing_game

More specifically:

It takes as long as you want it to take, but count on the fact that simple adventures will last at least 2-3 sessions of about 3 hours.
You'll need to know the story as the GM (as well as the rules).
The players will not need to know the story at the start, but should actively participate in the game, and amongst themselves, try to find out the whole story, and decide on what they want to do with it.

You'll need at the very minimum 2 people, 1 to play the GM, and 1 player. Maximum: I'd say 1 GM & 5 players is plenty. But with the starter-set you have only enough for 1 GM & 4 players.

That's 1 GM and 3 players in the core box.

Playing RPGs is really collaborative storytelling. Yes, the GM is playing a prewritten adventure, but the players ALWAYS go off on a tangent and help write a unique story that only vaguely resembles what was written in the adventure book... :)

To really enjoy this game, you really need to go for it storywise, ham up the descriptions, play out dialogue with funny voices and all and generally aim to entertain your friends as much as they'll entertain you as you play. When you get that mix right, RPGs are simply awesome fun.
