Can Sage see my starting spell?

By Dupius, in Talisman Rules Questions

Hi

My character (the Prophetess) begins the game with 1 spell. As I ready my pieces to start the game, a troublesome opponent (the Sage), citing his special ability to "always know the top card on the Adventure and Spell decks", grabs at my starting spell card, which I'm trying to place beside my character. He says it's coming from the Spell deck which he has a right to see. I tell him to buzz off - I'm starting the game with this spell, and the decks only become operational when the game gets underway. The game hasn't even started and here we are arguing - this is what I'm dealing with. serio.gif

The others side with me (for once), but the Sage is not pleased. He's even less happy when my Prophetess helps herself to a look at his starting spell - her special abilities, of course, give her this privilege! demonio.gif

However, I've a niggling feeling about this which hopefully the forum can resolve. Is the Sage entitled to know the spell with which I begin the game (effectively making his special ability very similar to that of the Prophetess), or was I right to hold my ground?

The Sage had no right whatsoever to look at the Spell you began the game with. Special abilities may only be activated once the game has started!

My sentiments exactly! Many thanks Elliott.

Another thing to remember is that when a character is killed and a player draws a new character to play, the new character is not placed on the board until that player begins his first turn as the new character! You would be surprised at how many people get that wrong lol
