Hello everyone,
A few days ago I finished my 4th run of No Such Thing as GM (awesome adventure; four different parties got four totally different conclusions), and now I finally get a chance to switch sides and be a player, for the first time in a year and a half.
At first I wanted to roll randomly, but over the past few days I've gathered a few ideas together to form Brustraka, a mingle between the Mythic career description, Granny Weatherwax, and a minor comic relief character from an obscure radio show.
(English is not my first language, and I apologize in advance).
Brustraka the down-trodden
She's an old woman, or more precisely, an ancient hag, bent and cackling, wearing a mess of torn dresses and wretched head coverings. She'll join the party by dragging along behind them, annoyingly, returning again and again after being shoved off and threatened. In time she'll become quieter, and even useful. Her mere presence might be considered lucky, even (using her Mystic ability to give fortune dice).
"Blessings for a coin! Blessings for a coin! Omens and signs, a dark day is upon us! Brustraka... ayayayayayay! Don't hit me good dwarf, noble stranger, this is only old Brustraka, she won't soil your beard again with her dirty stare... Blessings on your head! Blessings for a coin!"
Is she but a wretched and hallucinating creature, claiming to see the mysterious ways of the gods, nothing but another demented beggar? Or is she walking, blindly, down the paths of fate, an unknowing messanger of divine intentions, too divine for her mortal mind to comprehend?
Does her attchment to the group signals a great destiny intended for this fellowship of mercenaries? Is this the first time she's done this, out of a sudden gut feeing - the result of an upset stomach - or, like birds of omen, her presence indicate a guiding from above? And if so, isn't this black-clad, croaking old hag most resembles a raven, the harbinger of death? How many other groups has she trailed after, and what happned to them?..
If Brustraka knows the answer to any of these questions, they're long gone in the mess between her ears.
Attributes
Strength 3 - Brustraka is frail and gaunt, but she can lift an axe to hack logs, or kick a door when needed.
Toughness 2 - I want Brustraka to get infected with horrible diseases. Her fate is to die a wretched, chaos-filled mass.
Agility 3 - Again, more limber than she seems.
Intellegence 4 - Brustraka can't really count past 17 or so, but she've seen a lot, and knows all sorts of small details, hidden wisdoms, and folklore.
Will 4 - Brustraka might not really have both mental legs on solid ground, but her instabillity is surprisingly stable. Her thoughts are like a boat in a whirlpool, travelling around but in a predicted course. She might (and should!) get all sorts of insanites from becoming strained, thanks to her low Toughness and 3 Fellowship.
Fellowship 3 - Brustraka can yell the right things, or whisper sweet things, trying to coarce a coin, threaten foollish villagers, or crying out miserably trying to avoid being hit.
Skills
Observation, a witch should be sharp.
Folklore, as said before.
Magical Sight, because she really does see hidden things.
Action Cards
***** in the Armour, attacking using her Observation. Brustraka has a sling, and she can hit where it hurts, usually from cover, and usually just before screaming and running away.
Trivial Knowledge, giving fortune dice to other players with knoweldge rolls. A great way for me to throw around small details about the world (I know it better than any other player in the group), and a natural extension of the "I give you stuff, like me for it" of her Mystic ability.
I'm not sure about the third card. I thought about taking petty magic, showing a low natural ability for magic, enough to attract shouts and threats from sigmarites if detected, but not enough to warrant more than a beating. However, spellcraft is too much of an investment, even though I thought about making her an apprantice celestial wizard (taking her curses and omens to the next level), but it requires quite a bit of an explanation and investment. Currently I'm thinking to advance to Seer, though, and put the spells aside.
Focus Talents
Adaptable and Intuative.
Wealth
Brustraka is poor, and always will be.
Penny for your thoughts? Blessings for another penny!
