Mission briefing - Destroy Vanguard Organism

I've recently given a new mission to my poor, unloved players and figured that others might be able to get some measure of use out of the write up. I won't post up my full campaign notes, instead feel free to steal as much as you need/desire to for your own games. The specifics of the mission are designed for use in the Gothic Sector, so all you Crusaders out there might want to change some of the names. Hope you find something you can use :D

"During 002.M42, the shrine world of Moab was invaded by a small splinter fleet of Hive Fleet Jomangundr. While the defence was largely successful, the worlds infrastructure was shattered and one of the three major continents was never truly cleansed. Containment protocols were put in place as per standard imperial doctrine, with the various ocean going craft that still remained retrofitted with powerful weaponry to patrol the edges of the continent to ensure the tyranid taint did not spread through to the cleaner continents. Unsurprisingly, the containment was only partially successful and soon enough vanguard organisms were starting to infiltrate the few remaining population centres. Stringent gene-testing allowed the arbite forces to root out the various emergent Genestealer cults, but a truer danger was to hit the mining settlement of Kolse in early 008.M42.

"Kolse was at the heart of rebuilding efforts on Moab, with millions of workers starting to congregate into the rapidly erected residential hab blocks. The mines were settled upon a high concentration seam of raw ceramite and valuable ores and workers were always in demand. While daily gene checks managed to eliminate the worst of the Tyranid taint, genetic infiltration was not the only method open to the remnants of the hive fleet. The raw mass of bio-matter quickly gained the attention of the nascent hive consciousness which developed and sent through on of its few remaining complex creatures - a Lictor.

"Imperial authorities were only made aware of the creatures existence on Candlemas, 008.M41, during the night later known as the Feast of Dark Candles. With nearly ten thousand workers crammed into the East-S Hab Complex for Candlemas, the creature found a source of prey that could not run or defend themselves. Before the arbites could muster Retribution Squads to hunt the creature down, it had already fled the scene after taking the lives of almost one thousand imperial citizens - most of whom worked in Allied Minerals security services. If that was the only attack, the situation could well have been contained. The creature returned the next night, and the next, stalking and killing operatives of the mining site’s various sentry guns, tech-adepts tasked with maintaining the electrified perimeter fence and the arbite personnel attempting to maintain order amidst the rising wave of terror that descended each evening. With each passing night, the attacks grew more specific as the creature gathered more information about its prey, until it managed to hunt and kill Marshal Dolum Cruss - the arbiter’s chief officer overseeing the mines. Seeing the best protected man in the Kolse complex murdered in the heart of his precinct, and with bootleg picts of his torn apart Rhino APC making the rounds through the hab blocks - the morale of the common citizens broke and large scale rioting broke out, ceasing operations at the mines. As the arbites attempted to bloodily suppress the riots, Inquisitorial agents in Kolse sent a request through to the Deathwatch, attempting to put this creature down permanently. With the Deathwatch incoming, the Inquisitorial Agents could only watch their augers as each dawn brought more bodies and more spores from across the ocean."

Primary Mission : Destroy the Tyranid assault on Kolse

As dangerous as the Lictor is, it is only the vanguard of a larger Tyranid assault. Whatever force approaches Kolse must be halted.

Secondary Mission : Hunt the Lictor

The mantis-stalker has preyed too long on Imperial lives. Cleanse the beast.

Secondary Mission: Halt the Riots

Riots amongst Imperial Citizens is as damaging to Kolse as the Lictor. Perform whatever acts are required to halt the riots.

Tertiary Mission: Avoid damaging the infrastructure of Kolse

The Adeptus Mechanicus have provided mining equipment above and beyond the call of duty. These sacred machines must be kept intact to aid in the rebuilding of Moab.

Tertiary Mission: Slay the Kraken

Simply driving off the Tyranid menace to buy time for the arbites and mechanicus to re-establish perimeter defences may be enough for this battle, but for the war to come a decisive blow must be dealt to the attackers. Destroy any large creatures that accompany the assault and ensure their remains are incinerated in order to provide no bio-mass for the hive.

Tertiary Mission : Recover pheromone packages for Inquisitorial review.

The Lictor stalker-breed leaves pheromone trails to lure its kin to prize feeding locations. Gather the pheromone sacs from the Lictor to assist the Ordo Xenos to translate the hives scent-tongue.

This looks like a very interesting mission for the Kill-Team and one that I could see use of as a kind of form for writing up my own missions.
