Frey Hospitality + Double Bluff

By tldpaladin, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

If I win an intrigue challenge while in "Frey Hospitality" and play "Double Bluff" in order to change the effect to that of a mil. challenge (kill character instead of discard a card from your hand) , does my opponent lose one or two characters?

thank you in advance

Your opponent will need to choose a character to be killed for claim because of Double Bluff and then when the Passive effects step is reached, they must choose and kill a character because of Frey Hospitality. So by the end of the challenge, they will have chosen two characters (or the same one twice if they want if that one was saved from being killed from claim) to kill.

Frey Hospitality: "After a player loses an INT challenge, that player must choose and kill a character under his or her control."

Double Bluff: "Response: After defenders have been declared in a challenge, kneel 2 influence or pay 2 gold to change the effect of winning the challenge to that of another challenge type."

The thing to notice is that Double Bluff changes the effect of winning the challenge, not the actual challenge type. If you play it in an INT challenge, you would still use passives and Responses for winning/losing an INT challenge, not a MIL or POW challenge - even though that's what the claim effect "looks like."

Said another way, Double Bluff doesn't transform the challenge type. It's kind of like a claim replacement in that regard. You win the original challenge type, but get results that are not typical.

so, basically => two characters dead then. thanks :)
