some question...

By aenima, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

hi everybody

I would like to ask you something... and sorry for my english

1) when I return from the other world with the exploration token, can I decide to make an encounter in that location instead of try to close the gate? (I can close it in the next turn because i don't lose my exploration token). if this is possible... what happned if the encounter said: "a gate and a monster appear!"?

2 ) what happned when i fail the evade check against the Night-gounts?

3) what happned when, during an encounter, "a monster appear" and he's elusive?

4) I can't pay my bank loan this turn, so I give all my propriety to the bank... can I take another bank loan?

Hope all is clear ;)

1. Nope. If there's a gate open at a location you can't have encounters there. Your only options are to attempt a seal/close, wait there or leave.

2. If you fail an evade check against a Nightgaunt you're drawn through the nearest open gate. If there is more than one gate equidistant from your investigator's location you can choose which gate to enter. If there are no gates open combat ends.

3. Make an evade check against the monster's awareness modifier if you want to initiate combat. If you pass you enter combat if you fail nothing happens.

4. Nope. After you default on a Bank Loan you cannot gain another Bank Loan.

Welcome to the Carnival! (I have no idea why everyone says that to new people around here but when in Rome...)

P.S. Don't feel the need to apologize for your English. Most of us Americans speak English exclusively and a lot of us don't even do that well. happy.gif

Yeah. Just remember that, if an elusive monster surprises you, you cannot initiate combat with it in any way (the "surprise" effect hinders you for rolling the Evade required to enter combat)

sooo....

1b) I can stay in a location with a portal and my exploration marker every turn I want and without do nothing?

4b) under no circumstances I can take a second bank loan?

thank you!!!

1b) yeah, you can simple squat on a gate and wait several turns without doing anything. Just remember: the free pass against monsters lasts only for the turn you return to Arkham. This means that, in case there are monsters on the gate or a monster surge happens and you're still there in turns after the one you return to Arkham, you have to deal with them (evade or fight). But this tactics can work: you can stay a little on the gate in order to use clue-generating items. or your pals can pass and toss you an Elder Sign. Or you need some time to cohordinate a closing gates victory

4b) nope, you cannot gain any new Bank loan in case you fail the Upkeep roll and cannot pay the dollar required by the bank (as per rules written on the card; please cross-check the text and see if now it has sense)

;-) you're welcome!

So, after about 60 games of AH, I was sitting here and thinking, "Do the rules ever specifically say you close/seal a gate and NOT have an encounter afterwards"? Because that would be awesome. Having an encounter. After sealing or at least closing a gate. What do you people say?

You may not. Your options are to close the gate or do nothing. If you were supposed to have an encounter, the rules would say that, after closing a gate, you have an encounter.

You can think that the time it took for the investigator to close the gate gave him no remaining time to have an encounter.

ok, but...

it's true, in the rulesbook there sin't nothing about this possibility... but there is nothing that sayd that you can' do it!

so... look at the house rules by Richard Launius:

Rule 4 – Choose to Travel through Gate: Locations with gates do not automatically suck
the Investigator through. Moving through a Gate is a choice for the player, unless a Gate
opens at a location where an Investigator just happens to be visiting – then they are
sucked through as noted in the Rules.

Reason for the House Rule: Enables players more choices and opportunities to have
Arkham Location Encounters. My logic for the rule is that the gate is not huge, probably
only 12 feet by 12 feet and may even be in the basement of the building. The areas at each
location are large - buildings with multiple floors and rooms, or acres of thick woods so
there is an opportunity to still have normal encounters in a location even though nasty
creatures may be slithering through a gate in the basement below…

ok, it's a house rules, but the reason is very persuasive...

HEY I FORGOT....

another important question!!!

does the spider Thekla in the anime "Maya the bee" looks like atlach nacha?

Heh, it isn't exactly an important question but...

I googled it and you're right, Thekla does kinda look like Atlach Nacha. happy.gif Then again, any spider with an ugly human face looks like Atlach.

Some of us definitely prefer to play with that rule, but it does make things easier. Probably the biggest advantage is that it's a lot easier for other players to come along and help you out when you come out through a gate, either by showing up and handing you an elder sign or tome or research materials, or by clearing out the monsters that you'd otherwise have to fight or evade on your next turn. With the normal rules, it's still possible to do these, but you have to take advantage of the turn order, which isn't always in your favor.

perfect!

thank you to all!!!
