Black Crusade online game

By AkumaKorgar, in Black Crusade

So, I've had Black Crusade for a little over a month now and I am dying for a chance to run something. Unfortunately, my local group of friends have been very busy with their schedules and day-to-day lives and its hard for us to meet. I've decided I'd like to run a play-by-post game of Black Crusade. I'd only need three or four players, maybe more if I really do get that much interest. The campaign would be set in the Screaming Vortex, probably using Broken Chains as an opener (because I really do like the way it gets a group started) although without the pregen characters - that is, until someone really likes one of the pregens. Essentially, I'd like this campaign to be a sort of "vanilla" Black Crusade experience, since it'd be my first campaign with this line.

I'm not entirely sure yet what forum I'd be running this in. This forum here is an obvious choice but I'd hate to clutter up the FFG boards, when its really meant for talking about the game. RPG.net has a good forum with a large play-by-post area, and I think that'd probably be the best choice.

If you're unfamiliar with the concept of Play-by-post forum games, check this out:

I'd be interested. I've been avoiding play by post games since they tend to be a bit slow and drawn out, but the last two Internet games I've tried to be a part of fizzled out when the GMs didn't show up...

What kind of frequency were you hoping for and that sort of thing?

I usually ask players to try and check the threads daily, though missing it occasionally isnt the end of the world. It is important to keep momentum going though. A single overly long lull in gameplay can kill the synergy and cause even devoted players to be discouraged and lose interest. That's the only real downside to PbP, I find.

I am up for playing and have a Heretek character already to go. His backstory is tied into an old Dark Heresy character of mine who fell into Techno Heresy and just was caught by the Inquisition rather then the Mechanicus first. I can write up a fuller explanation of his backstory for you and send in the pdf of his character sheet once the game is confirmed.

I'd be willing to give play-by-post a go. I have two characters I wouldn't mind trying. One is a seductive heretek who largely relies on social infiltration to get to her target's weak spots, and hitting them in vulnerable spots with her Blade Tines, or a Chaos Marine who is a noble warrior, who screams his challenge to the enemy with his Laud Hailers, before zooming into battle on his jetpack.

That all sounds good, Deimos, if you'd like to send your PDF to me, my e-mail is [email protected]

Elurindel, if you'd like to flesh out your concepts a bit more and send them to my e-mail as well, I'd love to see them and decide if they'd fit the game. :)

Yeah, I'm interested. I've rolled up a black legionairre in the past, but I'll play pretty much anything.

The computer I'm on is having issues sending attachments for some reason. I'll send you a PM with the Dropbox links, if that's ok.

Ok, I have sent my PDF, gear purchases and basic outline of his background. I can work up a more complete one if you want.

I sent you an email with a character sheet and some backstory.

Quick note to follow up and see if you're still looking for additional players...this is something that I'd be very interested in getting involved with.

Still taking submissions, feel free to send in whatever. We have a Chaos Marine Sorceror, but everything else is still open (for now at least)

Great! I'm definitely thinking of a Space Marine, so that should fit well w/ the sorcerer. Will start working on ideas tonight.

Howdy!,

Really interested in getting into a game of Black Crusade!

I haven't finished all of the rulebook for Black Crusade (midterms floating around are giving me some issues), but I'm familiar with Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader. If you are willing to take someone new to BC and play by post games that would be awesome. If not, I understand! (but I will be sad, fair warning)

I'll give some thought to what I'd like to play if I'm okay to go. I'm interested in almost everything so far. It sounds like we might have two to three chaos marines; so would it be easier for the GM to do that too or are you okay with the mix?

If you can let me know if you're willing to deal with someone still fairly new to it, that would be swell. If not, I'll go into exile.

So does this mean I made it in? ;-)

Did you get the character sheets I sent you?

I would also like to check that mine actually made it through.

So has yet another game fizzeled out before even beggining?

Looks like that. I've never had Play-By-Post go well.

Sorry guys, life's been a little hectic lately. I haven't given up on this game just yet. And I have received everyone's character sheets, so there's the good news. I'll be getting back to you as soon as things settle down a bit. No worries!

Ahh, good to know that it's not completely died just yet.

The play by mail games I've tried to be a part of fell apart due to the GM disappearing as well. I'm curious, you said for people to flesh out their ideas to see if they'll fit into the game you plan on running, could you elaborate on what kind of game you want to run so people could design a character that fits it beforehand?

Can we get an estimate of when the next bit of minor information will be shared about this game? The complete lack of communication is rather off putting, as a play by post game needs the sort of daily upkeep that other styles wouldn't.

Are you still looking for players for this game? I have read most of Broken Chains some time ago, but could maybe join in after that?

I do agree that PbPs tend to fizzle out unless you're very diligent and keep in contact, even if there's nothing much to say. Having a web presence for your game helps, some place for players to gravitate to. I'd suggest a wiki on Wikidot.com as a good option unless you want to throw together a quick website for the game - WordPress is good for that. I've done both options in the past. Problem is it can take a lot of time up, which isn't ideal if you have a game to run. Both can have players making updates though, which takes the pressure off a bit. These are just my thoughts from having done this before, but as someone who is 'currently' running an online Deathwatch game for my friends which hasn't seem a player update for over a month, I certainly don't have the best answers yet.

Since it has been over 2 weeks since the GM has made a post in this thread, I have to assume that the game is cancelled. Guess I'll go look for yet another one.
