So Did Anyone Else Read "Dance of the Damned"?

By Master Fwiffo, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Speaking of which, I need to get my order for the card in the mail...

Anyway, it was a pretty good read, but the ending was a bit confusing (I suspect that was intentionally so) and I have no idea what happened.

But what really bugged me was that I couldn't figure out who the Ancient One was.

**SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT** They referred to it usually as "The Lord of Nightmares" (Which, surprisingly, doesn't seem to be associated with any Cthulhu deity I can think of), but they also mentioned it as The Treader of the Dust (Quachil Uttaus), the Feaster from the Stars (Which I'm fairly sure is Nylarthotehp) and mentioned that Night-Gaunts serve it (So, Yibb-Tsill then?). No Idea who they were going for.

But it was a solid, thematically Mythos filled read, and I'd recommend it to Arkham Players.

Now I need to track down Ghouls of Miskatonic.

When the NYC detective encounters the Bandaged Man, he mentions the Ancient One that was responsible for his decaying state.

I'm enjoying Dance of the Damned far, far more than Ghouls of the Miskatonic. Dance makes me appreciate Tony Morgan. Ghouls made me a little embarrassed to be seen reading, as irrational as that seems.

Tonight was the first time in like 5 games that I passed the Dance rumor. It is a really interesting card.

Yes, but my understanding was that particular Ancient One isn't the one who the Cult was summoning.

I'm really hoping the next book follows up on the fates of the characters.

Also I really want a character of the Bandaged Man.

Hrmm, STRANGE EONS HERE I COME.

I was planning on turning some Ghouls and Dance characters into allies and making a couple location encounters to obtain them, but was also considering a revision of my intro scenarios to accommodate that Ancient One. Oh well.

Guess we have to wait for the end of the trilogy, eh?

But wait... am I mistaken, or is the 2nd Dark Waters book being written by someone else?

I dunno about the Dark Waters one (I haven't picked up the first one yet) but the second Lord of Nightmares is.

That... is what I meant. Whoops.

All these names. Gosh it's hard to keep track of.

So I bought and finished Ghouls of the Miskatonic today.

Let me preface by saying that for the most part, these days the only books I read are Classic Sci Fi/Fantasy/Light Horror (IE LOVECRAFT) and what I'll call 'Franchise' books - books written in my favorite universes (Starcraft, Starwars, Ect.) Franchise books tend to not actually be that good, but I love further adventures in my favorite universes. even if they aren't that well written.

And for a franchise book, Ghouls wasn't bad. It wasn't anywhere near as good as Dance of the Damned, but it was a fun Arkham read (though they kinda overdid it with the character call outs - I was amazed that Monterey Jack and Joe Diamond didn't show up. But it was fairly typical for a franchise book, and it read quite a bit like an elaborate first few turns of Arkham Horror.

Plus my favorite character to play (Rita) got a co-starring role, so that's always fun.

Yes it is a different author - which is a shame as, like you, I enjoyed this one more than Ghouls. It's possible the new author may be even better of course.

Not passed the Dance rumour yet, but only used it twice so far. No problem getting the tomes, just can't get everyone blessed fast enough!
