mutations gone wrong...or right.

By htsmithium, in Black Crusade

just for fun i thought i would ask about anyone getting some really odd mutations that can wreck havoc on a game?

for example the medic in my group not only has darksoul, but also burning body...so eeverytime someone gets hurt the space nun wreathed in black flame has to come to there aid. so far had only had one instance of her burning the poor guy rather than heal, he also failed the fear test she caused and went screaming down the hall.

also my jet packing missile launging guy got slayer limb, with krak missile, you can just imagine the problems this will cause.

last had one of my heriticks get quadraped, missing head, and the one that makes you really fat...yeah

any other odd gifts of the gods combos?

My very social ex-Imperial Noble apostate still looks human even after gaining two gifts through failure. Warp-eater from interfering in a duel to save his own neck and Infernal Will from the effects of Warp-Eater over time. The odds of him not turning inside out or something without the dual rolls from unaligned or even being able to modify it from Infamy are slim, so I'm actually pretty pleased so far!

I'm currently playing a Tzeentchian Sorcerer obsessed with mutations. So much so that he has a ritual for inducing more of them. So far, he's picked up:
Flaming Skull (reskinned as his dreadlocks being permanently wreathed in warp flame)
Projectile attack (He breathes warp flames!)
Warped appearance (He's blue. Sometimes red)
Tail (He has a tail tipped with a giant black scything blade. Said blade opens like a bird beak to reveal a bundle of manipulator tentacles. Used to wield a flamer)
Mark of Tzeentch (He has the symbol of Tzeentch over his eye. It's on fire)

He also has force weapon tattoos (Because Awesome). They have a Daemon in 'em. They got the Flaming quality. So he's covered in tattoos that are on fire.

He likes fire. Lotsa fire. Used to be a Salamander. Really loves fire. Fire.

The rest of the group's been pretty mellow with 'em. The other sorcerer and the Renegade both scored wings, which is kinda funny. The real "Lucky mofo" story, however, is the Heretek. Basically wanted to look "normal", and didn't wanna pick up a bunch of obvious cybernetics. First mutation: Illusion of Normalcy. No need to be subtle anymore!

Thanks to warp-eater, my unaligned apostate has gained massive amounts of corruption (failure) from warp voyages. His five gifts, none of which came from a success are:

Warp-eater

Infernal Will

Warped Appearance (golden skin, silver hair, diamond eyes, *very* tricky to infliltrate Imperial space again)

Illusion of Normality (until this!)

Animal Hybrid - Reptile (a snakelike appearance with a literal serpent's tongue)

The latter two gifts were gained during one hellish voyage which took over a year *in warp*. All things considered, this list could have turned out a lot worse for the character!

Our campaign features 3 PCs, and two of which have gone as according to plan, where mine has been well, unexpected. The Slaanesh apostate gained a daemonic name and the mark of Slaanesh, which considering his infamy was only in the upper 20s and 30s at the time was rather impressive. The Nurgle heretek gained mechanoid and wreathed in chaos, so he really gained what any heretek strives for and a lovely swarm of flies. My unaligned renegade first gained warp eater, which didn't alter much, but soon after gained animal hybrid insect. I've chosen to have him mutate into a human locust hybrid which with warpeater has no need for food or water. Only chaos knows what he will develop into from here.

For my character Khremzzeek I only have three Gifts of the Gods going on for him:

MARK OF KHONRE: Gained from 20 Khorne traits & talents

Tail (Khorne): Gained from corruption

Daemon Weapon (Bloodseeker*): Gained from a successful Infamy Test

Bloodseeker (BASE: Chain Greatsword)

CLASS: 2handed DAMAGE: 2D10+33 TYPE: Rending PEN: 8

RANGE: Melee ROF: N/A CLIP: N/A RLD: N/A

SPECIAL: Wound (3), Fueled by Slaughter, Bloodlust, Unbalanced, Maglock

One of my players is now a mechanical spider-limbed ghost....

The necrons called - they want their tomb spider back!

The mutations in the group that I currently GM BC for have turned out quite… interestingly :P

Our slaaneshi "I win all social challenges except charming a noble woman" renegade got the Illusion of Normality mutation as his first one. Its a good one but also a bad one, since all those fancy Gifts of Slaanesh he will get later wont really give him any good bonuses since he will not look like a avatar of Slaanesh, just like, well, a normal dude. Next he got a Gift of Slaanesh daemon weapon for being present while his fellow apostate failed a ritual to summon a daemonette. Those rolls kinda worked out great, since now we at least know where the daemonette went to.

Our tzeentchian apostate got his first mutation from that first failed ritual, which just so happened to be Featureless Face. That made his social interactions, and well, being the "face" of the group to a whole new light and world of hardship. His second mutation came from a (this time) successful ritualistic sacrifice of the Arch-Bishop of the hive planet they currently resided in to summon a blue horror to his bidding. All went well until he rolled perils from the ritual psychic phenomena roll. Like that wasn't bad enough, he rolled Grand Possession from the perils table. Then he burned infamy to "survive" the possession and I ruled that caused the ritual to summon a blue horror AND a Bloodthirster instead of being possessed by a Lord of Change :P

Needless to say, the next few hours/days went past in a mixed flurry of "by the gods, we need to get out of this noble hive spire to the lower levels", "did you know we are being followed by a greater daemon of Khorne that is very pissed off at you and is literally destroying everything in its way?" and "it seems that you just opened a warp rift that keeps on pouring daemons to the city". In the end, we all found it very fitting that when he rolled his failure based mutation that the apostate got the Pseudo-daemonhood mutation. So now he resembles a horror-human hybrid that has a featureless face and is unable to communicate to the masses about the glory of the Dark Gods. Luckily he is quite close to getting Mark of Tzeentch and some telepathy powers so he can start communicating properly once again :P

Also, our Psyker also got the Featureless Face mutation from taking part in that first failed ritual(which also gave the apostate that very same mutation).

Indeed, the Dark Gods(and the dice) are fickle.

I had a Heretek in power armour who was wielding a lascannon that then got blessed with centauroid (insectoid) which then led to a lot of power armour modification. I think i figured out that with a couple more gifts i could get a Run speed of something approaching 100…

My Renegade of Slaneesh was so ridiculously blessed with social gifts that it was hard to get anything less than 7 or 8 degrees of success on all interaction tests. His combat ability wasn't too shabby either what with his best craftsmanship terminator armour with storm-claw and reaper autocannon.
