Bara Knights

By Mighty Jim 83, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

Took this deck to a joust tournament last week - first round it worked perfectly. Got Robert and Devious intentions in my starting hand, and won in 2 turns. Also won the next 2 games, before losing horribly to Martell Brotherhood (Beric + flaming sword+Taste for Blood+Prince that was promised) and then to Greyjoy Maesters making nasty use of Naval Escort.

Trying to think of some adjustments I can make to it to cover these massive areas of weakness. I wondered about either Search and Detain or Milk of the Poppy for Beric (or the Red Viper etc.) but was also wanting to bring in You Swore an Oath, so plot deck is getting a bit crowded.

I'm unconvinced by the use of distinct Mastery in this deck and Knight of Flowers never seems to do much. See who is stronger is good, provided i can find the influence for it. What do people think about keeping those/what to replace them with?

Search and Detain wont help Vs Beric unless you catch him without attachments, the chances of that are remote. Shireen stops Beric claiming power so his double renown effect is nerfed, she doesn't help with TRV though.

Core set Mel shuts down Beric and most Viper/Taste for Blood decks. As for Maesters, the new Bastard attachment in the Lani box is nice if you pop it once they have a few chains down, just a thought?

Out of curiosity why are you only running 2xTLS? Hes your restricted card after all, shouldnt he warrant 3 copies?

Can't remember why I started with only 2x Laughing storm- have added a third now, as well as a couple of Shireens, and 2x Bastard.

I took out Knight of Flowers and Distinct mastery, only to have a game where laughing storm was almost on his own- being able to re-stand him would have been really usefull!

Mighty Jim,

Im still learning the higher level stuff for this game so forgive me if this sounds ridiculous, but can you talk me through how Robert and Devious Intentions results in a two turn win?

Hi- sorry I hadn't spotted this for a while - the game was a while ago, so i may have forgotten some of the precise details, but below is a rough summar of what happened.

It helped that the guy I was playing against was running Knights of the Hollow Hill, so had very few characters out in the first round.

Robert + Devious intentions =stealthy, tricon, re-standing renown. getting stronger all the time. First round he defended 2 challenges and won 3 as the attacker, all undefended, due to stealth/killing stuff. 5 renown, 3 undefended, plus dominance. already on 10 Power, Robert is 9 strength.

Second round, the other guy had learnt slightly, and only sent one challenge against me (which i won taking me up to 11), then my challenges phase, again using stealth, enough renown and/or undefended to reach 15.

Obviously, I had other characters out, so 1 or 2 of them may well have had a power on, I don't recall exactly.

Aside from letting him stealth opponents, devious intentions stops Robert being stealthed by the other side. Once he gets going, the opponent either has to forgo doing challenges, or find a clever trick to stop Robert just using them to pick up more renown.
