Jester Update

By Toothless_Night_Fury, in Talisman Home Brews

Hi guys,

This is my updated version of the Jester, playtested over 30 games with him and he plays well.

Jester.png

He was the poorest character designed by Mephisto!

Regards,

Ell.

Juggler is actually not the poorest character. lengua.gif

The poorest character from mephisto is the Satan Servant.

He is actually a Jester who juggles (the artwork is that of a Court Jester) gran_risa.gif

But a jester looks different.

It's more like a evil character

Some additional information:
The official Character Card "Gaukler" was created by Mephisto!

It is only available in german language. The translation of german "Gaukler" is not Jester, correct is Juggler!

I prefer the translations suggested by Jon:

Schwarze Hexe - Black Witch
Satansdiener - Devil's Minion
Gestaltwandler - Shape Shifter
Goblinschamane - Goblin Shaman
Dschinn - Genie
Glücksritter - Gambler
Magielehrling - Apprentice Mage
Kurtisane - Courtesan
Exorzist - Exorcist
Illusionistin - Illusionist
Gaukler - Juggler
Märtyrerin - Martyr

I know the direct translation means Juggler, however the artwork appears more like a Jester (similar to the Jester Adventure Card). Velhart that is not a Jester from history, that is a modern bastardisation of one.

The Martyr should be called the Martyress, as she is most definitely a woman!

The Devil's Minion artwork does not suggest any association with the Devil. It looks undead for sure though lol

Hey Elliot,

I like that type jester more than the normal one.

But i think you are right, that this jester is more like a fantasy character instead of a real jester that has live in our history books( middle ages) happy.gif

Greetings,

Vel.

Traditionally a "jester" is a professional fool or clown who works for the nobility at court, royal or otherwise. The term is from middle english "ges[t]er"... a teller of tales and stories, or an entertainer and orator. "Gest" is also derived from the Latin "gesta" or "exploits" ... leading to tales of great deeds both fortunate and tragic.

The outfit shown is actually not that of a jester but a harlequin; nope, they aren't the same. A traditional harlequin is also masked, always. Sometimes the mask is a physical object, other times it is painted on. The harlequin was a bit of juggler as well, or generally skilled at prestidigitation (sleigh of hand) though most often carried a fake weapon, like a wooden or straw sword. Some were depicted carrying rod (a stout length of wood about the length of arm, measuring from under the arm to the tips of the extended fingers). There were tales that the rod / wand of the harlequin was magical but in a vary irratic way... maybe like the roll for the Enchantress.

Unlike the Jester, the Harlequin was a wanderer. Don't know how that really relates to anything, but the abilities, outfit, and place as character on the move will always make me think of the Harlequin.

Hey JC,

I think you are right.

I totally forgot the harlequin.

I was looking on google for it, and it shown images of harlequin under the name jester.

But a harlequin has indeed a white face or is using a mask etc

But the outfit is a bit similar if you look to his hat, and his costume.

Oh, and I've always thought the Harlequin... ahem, I mean Juggler, should be Neutral.

Oh, and I've always thought the Harlequin... ahem, I mean Juggler, should be Neutral. How else is going to go everywhere he needs to for a profit.

Juggler/ or jester should be good or neutral, and the Harlequin is neutral or evil demonio.gif I stick to the evil side whaha
