The let's complain about how it has been ____ weeks/months with no previews thread!!!

By Frog, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

This thread is for weekly complaints about how many weeks/months it has been with no previews for Descent 2.0!

It has been 5 months since Descent 2.0 was announced and we still have no previews! At this rate I'll be playing Diablo 3 before this game ships!!!

Good luck but...we probably won't see any more previews until about a month before the game's release. They have to make sure all the rules are concrete I guess...

Let's also remember to mention Diablo 3 in comparison every time we want to make a scathing remark about how long it's taking to release Descent 2e.

Because, you know, nothing hurts the feelings of FFG's game design team and spurs them to release their game before it's ready like being compared to one of the wealthiest and most successful companies in (video) gaming history - a company admittedly known far and wide for delaying the release of their games well past projected launch dates, but also known for making those games absolutely impeccable when they finally do come out. A company that continues to rake in $15 a month from over 15 million adoring fans (last time I checked). Let's all take a moment to do the math on that one.

Yeah, that'll show them.

Frankly, I've never known Blizzard to release a game that wasn't worth every penny of its initial sales price, horrendously delayed though it's release may have been. If FFG is in the same boat, then they're in good company as far as I'm concerned.

The thread title is meant to be a joke and agonizingly watch those weeks/months go by. There is no news so what else are we going to talk about?

As for Diablo, I have played those games nonstop since 1997. I was originally planning to play Descent 2 to warm myself up for Diablo3 but it looks like it will be the other way around. I think Descent is very Diabloish.

I'm pretty excited about Descent 2.0 I just wish FFG would not announce highly anticipated games 6-12 months before they release. It would be nice if they just waited 3 or 4 months like they did with Nexus Ops.

I believe FFG has the complete right to spend as much time as needed in the creation of a badly awaited game like Descent II is. I actually EXPECT them to take their time, balance it (perhaps a bit better than 1st ed?), make all rules clear and wording impeccable (again, a bit better than 1st ed?).

If I were to complain about anything, I must admit that a few more previews might have been appreciated to better endure the long wait. But I guess if they're not making any, they must have their reason to it.

I've said this in other threads already, but the reason they're holding off the previews is because they don't want to hype the game too soon, otherwise people will have forgotten the hype by the time it's on sale. The very (very, very) early announcement of 2e at GenCon was a tactical decision - I guess there weren't any other big board game conventions between then and the projected release date - but they should be starting up with the previews in a month or two, if the current release date is still accurate.

Personally, I think it was nice of them to give us all a heads up about why 1e was going out of print. Can you imagine how people would have spazzed out if all the 1e reprints had just up and disappeared last year with no word as to why?

Another week with no web-site preview! We did get the GTM preview as posted in the other thread though.

Still says "At the Printer" which is a good sign yes?

Come on, we want some news and info!!! I come on this forum since they announced the sec. ed. llorando.gif

It has now been six months with no previews! AH AH AH AH (Count voice)

Interestingly, Blizzard now says that Diablo 3 is slated for 2nd quarter 2012. It looks like both Descent & Diablo will hit around the same time!

If they need a little extra time to polish things up, I say let them. I'd like to avoid another Forbidden Alchemy fiasco.

I keep hearing of a March release from my FLGS. I wonder how valid that is?

One more week passes us by. Not a single razorwing in sight!

I wonder when we will see the next preview of this game. Acording to some shops the game will be avaliable at the end of April / early May 2012.

So when we are going to get more news?

I just wish they had released that news 4 months sooner, as I bought the game and all the expansions last summer and then no one wants to play because it takes too long. So thankful for the hero conversion packs and promise of quicker gameplay in 2e.

At this point, lack of updates are making me forget about it, not too many early updates. There is no hype at the moment which is just sad. It'll be a great game, and I think FFG needs to pay a little more attention to one of their front runners.

Don't worry, there will be plenty of hype once we get close enough to the actual release date. They haven't forgotten about the game, they're just waiting for the right moment.

And here in lies the problem with announcing games too early. You create a great thirst with no good way to quench it. I have a great example in the video game market but I think that horse is dead. ;) . anyways I eagerly await every last scrap of info I can dig up and devour until the game hits the shelves. Though the pickings are slim and I fear I may starve

With no new info this week, I guess you could say this campaign is still stuck at the Copper level!

I saw a pack of hairy creatures rushing towards the FFG Offices today.

They said..."It's time for another Beastman Beating"!

Even they are dying for 2.0 info!

I'd just like to add to the this thread because I'm extremely interested in this game... and would love to hear more about it......... another week gone, no word..

Today, marks seven months since Descent 2nd Edition's announcement with no website previews!

Time to sick the a few hell hounds on the marketing folks?

You're going all out with bumping this thread aren't you?

I come here 4 or 5 time a week just to see if we have news on this game...

7 months already? Just tell us when you gonna start showing something hehe

I'm hoping the long and quiet delay is a signal that they are putting far more time and effort into (all absent in Descent 1):

  • Making the game balanced
  • Creating rules that cover all conditions
  • Streamlining gameplay so it doesn't take a long time to setup, play, and break down

Dam can't wait for this game, a sure buy for me. Never played the first edition and am a little reluctant to buy it since my group have chaotic free time and would not want to only play this once or twice a year because of the lenght of the games.

But this 2nd edition is sure looking nice!

Question: Can you play without an Overlord? Like in a 2-player game, can both players play Heroes and quest together/against?
