Concerns for the Star Wars LCG

By Budgernaut, in Star Wars: The Card Game

Since this game is back in development, we may (or may not) have a last chance to put in our own 2 cents on concerns we have for the game before final launch. I have recently been playing The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game and it has raised some concerns for me about the new Star Wars game, especially looking at how many players are complaining that it's broken. I have 2 main concerns.

1) This game will be a carbon copy of LotR. I think the demo pretty decisively showed that's not the case, but I hope they're not going back through the game in development and making more and more like LotR. An extension of this is that even if gameplay is significantly different, they might end up using the same encounter deck ideas for SW as for LotR. Again, this doesn't seem plausible, but I'm just emphasizing that I want to see some new stuff. For example, I don't want to see Force Pack 3 be an escort mission of a damaged Rebel dignitary's ship (i.e. Journey to Rhosgobel copy).

2) My second concern is exactly the opposite, I hope that the effort to make these games similar doesn't end up causing the development team to throw out things that work really well, just because they're trying to keep it fresh. For example, an escort mission is a really good idea, I would just like to see it in a later cycle, rather than the first.

So i try but i'm dreaming.gui%C3%B1o.gif

Drop coop game and make a good PvP game, please!!! preocupado.gif

as long as it is co-op everything will be fine I think. From what i have read of the gencon demo the games look pretty different to LoTR. I think the 3 zones will make the gamer feel very different to LoTR, i can not see it being a carbon copy in anyway.

The only thing they need to really take from LoTR is the difficulty level. LoTR is a little easy for experienced card game players, but from what people post many people find it to hard.. so I hope they do not try and make star wars any easier to please the morons.

I'm not concerned that it will be a carbon copy of LOTR but I am concerned that it might suffer the same problem that it gets easier with more players. I hope they can get the scaling right for 3 and 4 players to make it more difficult.

The thing that really concerns me is the scope. Endless Imperial vs Rebel engagements would get really boring really quickly, to me. I'd like them to create a game that would allow for a variation to the encounter deck. For example, I espoused on these boards sometime in the past the idea of having a Jabba-themed encounter deck, and the Rebels have to negotiate their way through his palace to some end or other, whether that be rescuing Han or merely a recon-job. More fringer-scum types, the odd bounty hunter, and I think we'd be good to go!

I really hope it doesn't end up PvP. I think a Republic vs Separatist game would be more suited for this, personally.

Hey, that's a very good point. And, people's feelings about the prequels aside, it could be a pretty great game, if it took place on a Galactic scale! happy.gif

Thanks, I thought so too gran_risa.gif

Given the way The Clone Wars continues on unabated, I think it only makes sense really for a tie-in of some form or other. I don't know the scope of the license agreement they have with Lucasfilm, but I'd like to see FFG plunder the depths of the Star Wars universe, and not confine themselves to four or five years of the timeline for their entire games line.
