Fiend Slayer

By alboy, in Talisman

When the Fiend Slayer is your follower the card states you must draw one more card than required on a space. On page 16 of the Rule Book it states all cards used by a Character are optional, does this card overrule that Rule.

I don't know what you think, but for me there's another Golden Rule that says Fiend Slayer should override the Having and Using Cards Golden Rule:

Special Ability vs. Rules
In any instance where a special ability or effect is at a variance with the basic rules, the special ability or effect always overrides the rules.

If you have Fiend Slayer with you, you must draw one more card than required.

Thanks thats just what l was thinking, nice to have it confirmed though.

Prophetess (or someone with Orb) + Fiend Slayer + Prophecy + Hidden Valley = partido_risa.gif

..then You draw Crypt Keeper... :)

I have a different question about the Fiend Slayer after playing with my friends last night.

My friends interpreted the card differently from me, taking it to mean that even if you land on space - for instance The Hills - which already has a card in play on it that you had to draw another card.

The way I read it was that if you had to draw a card then you drew the extra card. In my eyes if the space already has a card on it you wouldn't be drawing a card so you don't need to use the Fiend Slayer's ability.

How have others dealt with this situation, if you have encountered it?

I think I've seen this discussed somewhere else. I've been playing it that if the space already if full (1 card in draw 1 space), FS doesn't allow you to draw, only when you actually draw cards does the FS kick in.

There's a Thread about Prophetess + Fiend Slayer when you'll find further discussion. I play it the same way: draw extra cards only if a Draw Card Space isn't already full.

Last sunday I got the Fiend Slayer while Prophecy was active and tackled the Ruins... drew 4 cards, found Goblin, Mammoth, Sword of Light and Two Bags of Gold; lost 1 Life and FS at the same time. Stupid move, but I was amazed by this card surge in the Outer Region. I must try it. gran_risa.gif

We play that even if the Hills are full and you have the Fiend Slayer you still draw a card. It can obviously be interpretted both ways however it is easier just to assume he turns "Draw One Card" spaces into "Draw Two Card" spaces. In Talisman I tend to go with the "which way is easier to explain to my 9 year old" method when deciding how to interpret a card.

If you read the text on the fiend slayer, it says that you must draw a extra card if you come on a draw space.

It don't say that you may only draw a extra card if you must draw a card from the space.

I hope that this is resolved gui%C3%B1o.gif

Indeed, it says to draw one more card than is required. This means that if you are in a Draw 1 Card space and there is already one there, you should draw another.

I hope the FAQ will give a different answer. There are some situations when the Fiend Slayer can create an incredible mess if you use it without restraint

Today the Warrior (winning Character) took it when he was already Strength 8/Craft 5; he had no problems with Enemies and tried the Shrine as much as he could. A Fields space became clogged with cards: Market, Shrine, Magic Portal, Witch, Pathfinder and a Pool of Life there, as well as many other temporary cards (i.e. ditched Objects). Which Places/Strangers can you visit? In which order?

Ok, this is a particular case, but something like this should be avoided at any cost. In the middle of the game, we decided that if there are already enough cards on a draw card space, you cannot draw additional cards because of Fiend Slayer.

I strongly recommend that you change your mind while writing down the FAQ. Fiend Slayer can generate chaos.

I see no problem with the Fiend Slayer.

It only says that you can draw one extra card on a draw card space.

If you come on a draw 1 card space and they are already 2 cards on that space, then you can't use the Fiend Slayer.

Ok, so you should treat Fiend Slayer as a Follower that turns "Draw 1 Card" spaces into "Draw 2 cards" spaces for the Character.

For me this is fine enough.

Prophetess (or someone with Orb) + Fiend Slayer + Prophecy + Hidden Valley = partido_risa.gif

= 6 cards drawing gran_risa.gif Hidden valley( 3 cards) + (prophecy and fiendslayer + 2 cards) + discarding a card, and draw another one

then you have 5 cards in hand gran_risa.gif

New combo...

Swashbuckler + fiendslayer on fields= 3 cards drawing !

Add the orb and can discard one and draw card number 4:)
