Hope you guys will print and play him!
Ell.
Your older version was better.
For example the gaining fate ability if you defeat a enemie or character.
The gold gaining ability is also nice.
I have add those 2 ability's to my fortune knight..
I think he is very interesting to play.
That was like a built in Runesword though, which didn't suit the Gambler. He is more like the Mephisto version now. However I don't like the fact that the mephisto version allowed him to reroll another characters die roll, which could cause problems!
Ell.
Ps. He is well balanced now.

Runesword has to do with lives.
Gaining a fate for a enemy makes him interesting.
It's almost the same as the dark cultist, except that the dark cultist has more variety in gaining goodies.
I think that the gold ability makes him balanced too, because he is always neutral.
However, he could get plenty of fate if he defeat enemies, but if he use it, then he can do something with it.
Then he is a real fortune knight.
The two mephisto abilties that are replaced with these abilities, are not so good. So it;s a good replacement i think.
I still want to try him out.
PS: why can re-rolling for other characters cause trouble?
The Gambler always has 1 gold now to compensate for being neutral (heal life, replenish fate, etc.).
If we allow fate to be rerolled for other characters, then it would generate a rules issue. Can a player use his own fate on his die roll, if the Gambler has already paid a fate to force him to reroll the die?! Obviously the answer would be no but it isn't covered by the rules. The idea of paying fate to force an Enemy to reroll its die is straightforward and gives the Gambler an added chance of winning. With the addition of being able to do it in psychic combat as well.
The Gambler can now take all a players fate when defeating him in battle or psychic combat!
Ell.
Ps. I won't change him again I promise lol

The way i would play it, is that his ability is a can vs cannot rule. (same as the warrior)
Normally, you can only pay 1x fate for rolling the die, but with this ability, he can pay another fate to force a character to re-roll the die.
This is the way i would play it.
It's a unique character.
I think it will not be a big problem in the game.
i would allow the opponent to pay one fate first, so that it will not cost my own fate.
PS: i just have a question in the rules forum about the minstril and dragon priestess. can you help me out?
Hey elliot,
I also saw that you have delete the ability that evertime if he has to roll a die, he has to do this.
I don't know yet how that will work out in the game.
This would mean that if you encounter cards where you must immediately roll a die can have a negative impact on the fortune knight. This could also be potions(objects) or places etc
I hope it will not cause problems, but it's sort of a negative ability. On the other hand, he is already a very good character i think.
