Every now an then I glance at WD at my FLGS, but I wouldn't know where to start if there was something that would be relevant for imperial campaigns. Anybody find any that are worth looking at for content?

On the Boil and the Madcap Laughs articles got me into wfrp. Why can't they make mags like tha anymore? But that was many years ago. It's now a glossy catalogue for minifigs since about 1993. Or some such.
Warpstone's a better bet. Really ought to pick some of that mag up myself.

They really are just filled with adds and splashes of the latest releases. I stopped buying them years ago even tho I played 40K (the miniatures game). While you can naturally find inspiration for WFRP3 in a WD i am confident that it will not be worth the time or money spent.

Warpstone is good fan-magazine, but I think the last issue (Issue 30) will be out this year.
White Dwarf does have good background articles time to time (and art also - Not just those pictures about miniatures). But I think also, that most of it is probably pretty useless stuff for the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay fan...
If you don't play 40k, WFB or LotR miniatures, then it's a waste of time.
Games Workshop has lost the plot on the hobby - sales down, profits up, won't even put their lesser lines (Blood Bowl, Inquisitor etc) in their stores etc. All this is reflected in White Dwarf.
Even if you like their core games it isn't worthwhile. I enjoyed it up until... can't remember, but I got it for years (all the time I was at uni). HOwever, a few years ago they really stripped down what they have in it. Now, it has mainly been an advertising rag for GW since they stopped reviewing other companies stuff ages ago, but it still had interesting articles if you were interested in the games. Inevitably they had something on the latest release, explaining its background and showing pictures of it (and the first few pages were a catalogue of new releases). There were usually a couple of fairly in-depth battle reports (one of which usually included the new big thing to show how awesome it was, of course). They would also have 'Eavy Metal (which I found dull... don't like painting much), and then various different articles on various things, such as background pieces, tactics and rules articles, special rules suggestions for special games (and the occasional official erratas or rules for things that didn't exist when the rules or codex was first published). Now, however, it is much stripped back. Yes, you still get the splash piece on the new release, but you get far less text to read, with fewer but bigger pictures (and a picture of the painted sprue every time... uses up a full page that could do something much more interesting), and it is pretty much purely going "Look shiney! Amazing! Must Buy!" without any subtlety. They do have battle reports but they seem to have like a single page of text and then maybe a picture for every turn with some small captions, rather than the detailed descriptions of the past. GW decided several years ago that no official rules would be published in White Dwarf so no FAQs, Erratas or new rules produced there (there have been the occasional exception, like the Sisters of Battle army list, but they were a very niche army). Tactics articles seem... non-existent, or very simplified and short. Sames goes for background articles. It just get depressing to look at sometimes. I stopped buying regularly several years ago (4 maybe) and only occasionally buy it when they have something particularly interesting (like the Sisters of Battle list), and every time I have done so I have been massively underwhelmed by the stuff I am not specifically looking for.
Basically: don't get it unless there is something you really want in that particular issue, and that will only ever be the case if you play their core games. It is of no use to someone playing FFGs roleplaying games.

Anyone heard any news about Warpstone? I paid for issue 30 a long time ago (years?) now. I'm not thinking I've been robbed, but would love to have some idea if or when the magazine will finally come out.
It makes sense to wait until a lot of the WFRP3 line was out, so that it could be reviewed, if that's what's causing the delay, but it would be good to know. The Warpstone forum had disappeared last time I checked too.
No. Not since they published A Rough Night at the Three Feathers in 1987.

As is often the case, people who run game shops don't really know what's going on. It was announced that Warpstone 30 would be the final issue, but it had nothing to do with WFRP3. It's taken a while getting it out since it's essentially a one-man operation (aside from the contributors) and that one man has had some more important things to deal with real time. However, WS30 is expected this year and I've been finishing off a number of contributions, so I'm aware there is real movement now. And, as always, it will be of use and interest to players and GMs of all editions of the game.
The website remains up at www.warpstone.org, although Strike to Stun is probably the best place for news when there is any.
Cheers

Best way to thank John for keeping the flame alive will be to pick up #30.
Cheers John!

I'm very glad to hear that! As I say, I'm not at all worried about the length of the delay. I appreciate that the magazine, despite not being given away free is essentially a labour of love involving a huge amount of hard work, and clearly not done for the money!
It was mainly the disappearance of the Warpstone Forum removing a way of asking about it that made me concerned - was John even all right?
It's always been a pretty rules-light publication (one of the attractions for me), so although I'm hoping for some reviews of WFRP 3 and/or ideas regarding it, I'm not at all bothered what rules (if any) are used throughout the articles.
Thanks very much for the update!

No problem - the forum had been replaced with a 404 page directing folks to StS, but I don't know what happened to that. I do appreciate that you might want to know what's happened to something you've paid for. I hope you enjoy it when it turns up.
Cheers
