First attempt at painting in years

By SolennelBern, in Dust Tactics

Hey all, just wanted to get some opinions on my first try at painting since early 2000s.

Don't hesitate to send some advices on what I could do or shouldn't do for the next ones :P

FYI here's how I procceded for the Battle Grenadier:
- Painted face with Elf Flesh
- Painted the clothes with Codex Grey
- Painted boots, belt, gun and goggles Chaos Black
- Left armor, gloves and helmet on the primer
- Added some Dwarf Bronze on the armor and shoulder bolts
- Washed entire mini with Badab Black
- Drybrushed clothes with Fortress Grey and a second time with Bleached Bone and the gun with Boltgun Metal
- Applied a last wash on the armor, gloves and helmet to darken them a bit more

To be honest, i'm not entirely satisfied with the mini but I am witht he tank trap, I think it's still cool enough to play with though.

Any advice are welcome!
Thanks :D

The next step up for me was trying to add shading and highlights, take a look at this guide as well it helped me a lot, I painted Stefan with the techniques Nam did and he turned out very well. My BGG gallery

Here's my finished BBQ Squad and my Battle Grenadiers! Pretty happy with the final result, good enough to play with the result!

I think your painting quality is definitely up to snuff. It's been a while for me too. I haven't painted since I left working for GW. But used to paint at Golden Demon level.

Itll be interesting to see how mine turn out after a 7 year break from painting. All of my paint pots are dried up and I need to get new ones. I was thinking of going with Warmachine paints from Privateer Press.

Did you re-prime them or use them OOTB?

I didn't reprimed them and kept the base color for the armors and helmets of both Axis and Allies.

I just finished my Allies squads and i'm **** satisfied with the result.

Bazooka Joe and The Boss: I wanted to make the command squad stand out from the other soldiers so I tried to paint a camo pattern on them. Clumsy but does the job at 3' and up!

The Gunners: To make them a little more "unique" I simply left their backpacks green.

The BBQ Squad: Nothing special here.

The Recon Boys: Like with The Gunners, instead of leaving their backpacks green I painted them the same color as their uniforms, Bleached Bone.

The paint jobs all look great. Looks even better when I turn my head sideways to see the pictures :-P
