“Other men were stronger, faster, younger, why was Syrio Forel the best? I will tell you now.” He touched the tip of his little finger lightly to his eyelid. “The seeing, the true seeing, that is the heart of it.”
–George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones

faq-fan.png A Game of Thrones: The Card Game is filled with secret plots and hidden intrigues. Characters die from poisoned blades in back alleys and forested woods. To avoid stumbling into your opponent’s traps and ambushes, you must look with your eyes, hear with your ears, smell with your nose, and keep all your senses sharp.

The new FAQ version 3.1 for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game (pdf, 1.2 MB) is now available for download from our support page (also available in a high-res version). Within this living document, you will find answers to many common questions, including new clarifications and errata that will immediately enrich the metagame at top tournaments.

The A Game of Thrones: The Card Game design team offers rationale behind some of the changes in the current FAQ.

Greetings A Game of Thrones: The Card Game players

blood-of-the-first-men.png With the recent reprint of the Defenders of the North cycle, a number of questions have arisen regarding the modified reprint of the previously banned card, Blood of the First Men ( Return of the Others , 119). To answer these questions, we have updated the A Game of Thrones: The Card Game FAQ with version 3.1.

When the need to reprint the Defenders cycle arose, we were faced with the dilemma of reprinting a set which included a banned card. Instead of reprinting a card that no one would be able to use in tournament play, we have decided to publish a modified version of Blood of the First Men, which functionally erratas all older versions of the card by virtue of the “Most Recent Printing” rule which is found on page 4 of the FAQ. This new, modified reprint is now the official version of Blood of the First Men, and the card has been removed from the banned list. Additionally, this new printing has been entered into the FAQ as official errata for all older copies.

Further questions has arisen as to whether or not we will lift the errata that restricts Night’s Watch and Wildling agendas from being played in the same deck. We are currently keeping this errata in place.

Beyond the Blood of the First Men card, no other card in the Defenders of the North reprinting has received a functional modification or errata. Three cards (Compelled by the King, Ahead of the Tide, and Tarle the Thrice Drowned) have been revised so that their printed language reflects errata that already exists in the FAQ.

In addition to an updated banned list and publishing the errata on Blood of the First Men, FAQ 3.1 clarifies a point on the new card, Meera Reed ( Tourney for the Hand , 2): when the card is brought out of Shadows as a duplicate, her “then” effect does not resolve. tourney-rules.png

We hope that this FAQ update clarifies the status of the Blood of the First Men reprint and errata, and makes your Wildling decks a little more interesting in the current environment.
