Advanced Careers?

By Fenderstat, in WFRP Rules Questions

To get to an advance career is the minimum requirement the completion of one career or two? eg I have a player who wants to go Zealot(basic) -Witchunter (advanced). Would he need to Zealot(basic) - ?????(intermediate or basic) - witchunter ?

I don't think there's a hard rule anywhere stating that you have to be a certain rank or have completed a career with a certain keyword before taking a career with a more advanced keyword, aside from having to start with a basic career. Usually, careers with Advanced or Elite as a keyword require completion of a specific other career, such as the Initiate -> Disciple -> Priest tree. In any case, Witch Hunter is an intermediate career, and specifically states that a character who has completed the zealot career may enter it.

thanks, much appreciated

You need to be at least rank 2 to be able to enter an advanced career. There is a rule about this in the Player's Guide on page 47.

Many GMs, myself included, currently house rule that the Careers have restrictions based on PC Rank.

Basic = Rank 1 minimum, Intermediate = Rank 2 minimum, etc

I'm considering applying this as well. And if players can't find an intermediate they like, they can take a basic career.

This is the WFRP 3rd ed RAW rule, good enough for me.
