basic questions

By apasten, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Hi,

I've recently adquired the Core Set and played yesterday with 3 friends, and a lot of basic questions appeared, so please be patient with me, but I love the books of Martin and CCG games, so this seems a perfect match!!

1.- Attachment: What happens with attachment when the character who has it became killed? discard? dead?

2.- Titles: there is a way to avoid that someone always takes the same title? The master of coin is a way to have supremacy on board, just for having more resources to put on play.

3.- Challenge: for example, if I receive an intrigue challenge, and I dont have any character with intrigue to defend, the challenge became automatically unopposed? I played with Stark and the only character with intrigue is Catelyn Stark, so I loose cards all the times...

TIA

Andres

1. Yes, the attachment is discarded.

2. The initiative order usually changes every round in melee, so it would be tough for the same person to take the same one every time. That said, the draw one is very good too, and potentially you could take the one that opposes the master of coins and punish them for it.

3. Correct, if you don't have any icons, it's automatically unopposed.

Thanks imrahil327 !!!

Another question, in cards that say "play from hand", for example Lannisport Honor Guard or The Titan´s Bastard, you must also pay the cost in gold coins to put them into play if you fill the requirements?

TIA

Andres

No, if they have a way to come into play from your hand, such as the Titan's Bastard, you do not need to pay their gold cost.

There is a difference between "Play" - which happens during marshalling, and costs gold;

and

"Put Into Play" - which happens at all kinds of different times (usually during challenges), and doesn't cost gold.

This. This is an incredibly important distinction to remember. Whenever a card has some effect on coming into play, double and triple check to see whether it is from being played or being put into play.

Other nuances to remember: if a card references "entering play" or "coming into play," that covers both "play" and "put into play." And placing your cards during Setup is none of these things.

Hi, thanks everyone for your responses!!!

Ouch, so that means that Iron Cliffs doesn't work as a setup card then, right?

Correct, you wouldn't be able to put gold on it.

Yep. The flip side is that there are some cards that work even a bit better when placed in setup. If you have River Row in your opening hand, it won't be knelt when you reveal your setup. Similarly, the new Street of Silk would bypass having to discard a location.
