Helping a new player setting up a Noble, who is going carry this pistol.
given the price 200 Thrones, and the write up would it count as a Good Quality weapon or even better?

The prices listed in the books are for Common Quality, unless something else is explicitly stated in it's description.
I concur with Darth Smeg. The price listed is for common quality ( note that particular weapon starts with the Accurate trait..a very handy thing ) But 200 TG isnt the most expensive pistol..the Mariette cylinder pistol is at 400TG..but remember to look at the availability of it...that is a big factor in what drives prices up for the same quality items....the mariette is a Rare item...and the westingkrup is Scarce. That is the primary reason for your price hike comparatively...the more common handguns tend to be cheaper but not by that much usually....

Well, the high price most probably comes from a time before the first errata appeared and where the Carnodon was the best SP pistol by far. It was basically a full-auto hand cannon as it appeared in IH (soft cover) from Black Industries if I remember correctly...
Thanks all
That was what I thought, but I thought I should ask, just incase I was wrong
Now Accurate Trait for pistols isn't as good as it is for Basic Weapons, they get just the +10 extra for aiming, but no bonus Damage of a extra d10 for every two degrees of success to a maximum of two extra d10.” Correct?
Actually a good question Angel ( one i actually missed entirely till you pointed the discrepancy out ) So i went hunting through the manuals and Errata files. I found this in the errata v1.01 ( direct quote excerpt )
Accurate - Gives +10 Ballistic skill if used with an Aim action if used at long or greater range, this can give a total of +30
from aiming. Also, if hitting a target at long or greater range, then for every degree of success adds +1 to damage.
The Errata version mentions nothing about edtra D10 damage rolls for any of them at any range...( though i do like the idea )
I would however personally go with a universal idea for it with the Aim bonus and say Yes and simply houserule it for ease of mechanics ( and saving time fumbling through books etc to hunt up a broken rule on it ( because it IS broken-whether your talking about the corebook version or the errata one )..I plan on simply using a full Houseruled version that streamlines it for ease of play.
Accurate: Gives and additional +10 Ballistic skill when used with an Aim action. When firing a single shot from a weapon with the accurate quality benefiting from the Aim action, the attack gains an extra d10 of damage for every 2 degrees of success to a maximum of 2 extra D10.
Simple straight forward and universal so it doesnt hinder play having to wonder yes or no.

Little behind the times since the DH errata is at V3
The description of the Accurate quality on page 128
should include the addition “When fi ring a single shot from
a single Basic Weapon with the Accurate quality benefi ting
from the Aim action, the attack gains an extra d10 of
damage for every two degrees of success to a maximum of
two extra d10.”
Pistol weapons with Accurate gain the to hit bonus but no extra damage.
ItsUncertain..i have both the erratas ( for clarification )...but all 3 descriptions are sorely lacking...IE they all SUCK..
EITHER ALL weapons get the added bonus from the accurate trait with aim bonus ( reflecting the better chance to hit vital areas ) or the ALL DONT get the bonus..IT makes NO difference whether or not its a pistol round or a rifle round. OR i should say it SHOULD make no difference since a carnodon is a hand CANNON not a avg pistol anyway and thus deals MORE or comparable damage to a rifle round ( with better pen i might add than any standard rifle ) so it makes sense to apply the same standard to it as well..
Personally id rather simply NIX ANY bonus damage to it as the bonus to hit would simply potentially translate to better chance of critical anyway ( making extra damage redundant since it does step on the toes of righteous fury option for extra damage ANYWAY )...
I use less than 2/3 of the rules as stock..because like everyone i realize that DH was created flawed as a first true attempt for RPG of the WH40K universe and it will have its flaws...this being one of them...but i still love the whole setting...i simply combine some rules from RT in there as well as houseruling some ( i dont have BC or the others yet to check out the much liked rules they have though they are on my list of games to get )...DH is still the most fleshed out street-level version of the WH40K universe with the most options for character types etc...
you are correct in the wording for things..seems FFG couldnt make up their collective minds as to WHAT exactly the Accurate trait / quality was supposed to have..If a rule is broken..then either throw it away entirely or houserule it fixed to suit the needs of the GM and group...simple as that
Rule of Cool
The extra damage for basic weapons with the Accurate trait is to bring them on par with damage output from an autogun type weapon, using a similar mechanic, but highlighting their sniper-like qualities instead of hails of lead.
If you take out the extra damage mechanic for Accurate basics, you're effectively removing snipers from your game. But, it's your game.
Ah Flail bot i havent ruled snipers out...not at all...i simply use a better more accurate mechanic for them from the dark reign site ( pdf file named True Snipers for Dark heresy ). I dont believe the round does get extra damage based on a simple TRAIT..thats simply BS. It gets extra damage from:
1) The shooters skill at aiming at vital locations and taking their time ( aka sniper trained )
2) The type of round being used ( bolters are bigger and explosive so they are gonna get more damage than any simple SP or Las round as a standard ) BUT custom rounds ( of the plethora listed in all the books ) can and do give various benefits if the right round is used for the right job.
ALL the accurate trait by absolute wording means is ( as per websters dictionary )
1) free from error especially as the result of care
2) conforming exactly to truth or to a standard
3) able to give an accurate result
Ergo it has NOTHING to do with damage..Accurate is meant by literal definition to ONLY give a bonus to HIT your target...righteous fury gives you your bonus to damage..FFG simply forgot to remember that...oops..no big deal...
In short..if your wanting extra damage..use RIGHTEOUS FURY....OR custom rounds designed to do more damage....
IF you want to HIT your target easier..then get an ACCURATE ranged weapon
That's an extremely reasonable interpretation of accurate. I'm interested in this True Snipers thing you refer to. Can I get a link?
Anyway, I feel like the intention is that the aiming of the accurate weapon allows the shooter to hit more vital areas, as you said, but without the specificity of called shot. It's just a simple implementation of the intention.
But hey, that's what house rules are for.
Go to the Dark Reign site and keyword search "True Snipers" to bring up the listing ( full title is True Snipers for Dark Heresy" but the search wont let you actually search for it all...but if you use the first 2 words it will bring it up )..It has alot of nice additions to things as well as the Sniper Talent/trait etc...hope you like
