So, who wants MONSTER FIGURES?

By Tibs, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

What could be a very simple fix here, and i believe would convince me and others to buy these, would be if spare duplicate monster chits were provided with each figure. As others have said as well I dread the wear and tear of sliding the chits in and out the monster bases and so having one chit for the monster bag and one chit for the actual monster would work well.

For the wear and tear reason alone I'm not tempted in purchasing these (except maybe the Dunwich Horror happy.gif) and I'm normally an OCD obsessed must complete collection type of person.

This is a good idea - I plan to make scans & insert into the bases.

I want ALL the masks of Nyarlatothep and i want them NOW, don't care if they are practical or not. Also, i don't find a problem mixing figurines and monster tokens; why use 9 cultist figurines? it's a game after all, it does not have to be "perfect". I am sure that the guys i play with, would compete all the time for defeating the monster-figurine.

For me Arkham Horror has always been about playing with my friends and find layer after layer of immersion...love the posibilities that figurines provide.

I hope the next waves are announced soon - I don't want to wait several years to get a complete set.

I suppose it may depend on how wave 1 sells.

I'm amazed at how negative the responses have been. If someone doesn't want them personally, that's fine, but as for me, I bought a full set plus extras so that I could have multiples of some of the more common ones, though I stopped at 4 cultists (2 of each type) and 3 Dark Young, and in most cases have only 2 of the other ones that could appear twice or three times. Still, I might go back and buy more to get the full complement.

It's fantastic as far as I'm concerned, and no one is forcing anyone to buy them. For those of us who want that added touch, it's magnificent in an eldritch way, and I can't wait to see wave 2 (based on the figures available I suspect only 2 or 3 waves).

And for everyone complaining about putting the tokens into and taking them out of the minis, why not just have a virtual monster bag in the form of an app or randomized die roll and leave the tokens in the monsters? That works, too.

If I had spare cash to blow, I'd probably get the Dunwich Horror and some Dark Young. Those Dark Young look great :'D

When does Wave 2 come out?

They are out now - see todays news page.

Those Masks look awesome.

How many figures in addition to wave 1 and wave 2 would you need to have the full gambit covered for figures... I.e. how many cultists and how many dark young, ect...

AGREED. As whiny as I got over Wave 1...I MUST HAVE THE BEAST.

Still no MoM chits. Sob.

So for completionists, what would it take to have an absolute complete set of monster minis?

My bet on couple hundreds of bucks.

Apart from slight insanity and lots of cash (someone will do the maths soon, or maybe we need to wait for wave 3 for the total) a cupboard to store them in and an extra table to lay them all out, for easy access during the game.

I may get a few duplicates for the more common monsters 2 or 3 max, but I think an example of each type will probably be enough for display purposes in most cases.

Where more than one of a certain type appears I'll just use the chits. After all, the board spaces can't actually accomodate several of the larger figures at once.

Wow, these look great and also very similar to Dreamblade minis. I may have to make a few custom AH monsters.

Last time it cost a bit over $300 but this time there were fewer figures occurring in large numbers so it was only about $237 including shipping for me. I am buying one for every counter, though. The whole set will probably end up a little north of $1000 (for one figure for each counter).

And my GF thinks I spend too much on games...

I hope these stay available for a long time.

Arkham Horror has a very special place in my heart as the game that got me back into board games. But the price (cost, shipping, plus taxes and import duties to Iceland) makes it a pipe dream unless I convince my family (and I need the girls to get older and get them playing it for that to happen).

One day I would love to have these, but its hard to justify when I could get several board games for the price of just the investigators.

Been having a lot of fun with these, though I'd only reccommend them for those that 1) play often 2) have the cash to spend on a luxury.

I've dealt with the space issue in two ways. First I don't bother to slide the counters into the slots, it just ends up wasting time going from the cup to the figs. Instead the counters for the minis on the board I leave to the side for reference. Second, I only put one monster per a play space. If I've got a dark young, a wraith and a cultist in the graveyard, I'll put the dark young figure down and then place the regular counters for the other two next to it. Then if the cultist happens to wander off by himself I'll put the cultist fig down where he ended up.

As for how many to buy, I found it a waste to buy a mini for each counter. There may be seven dark young if you own all expansions but I didn't see the need to get more than three since they rarely show up with more than that at a time.

All this of course is very subjective and will depend if you've got the funds. For those that don't, the old counters work just fine.

Downsides I've found so far, 1) the counters don't always slide nicely into the figs right out of the box, 2) some of the figs like the Mi-go legs are a little to bendy (especially in the MoM version), 3) need to find a good way to carry all those around since I more often than not play at other peoples places.

I hear you brother.

I don't dare to think about what would happen if I spent $1000 on game parts with only eastethic purposes. I barely got away with the Q-workshop dice set.
