“Death is not the worst thing,” the kindly man replied. “It is His gift to us, an end to want and pain. On the day that we are born the Many-Faced God sends each of us a dark angel to walk through life beside us. When our sins and our sufferings grow too great to be borne, the angel takes us by the hand to lead us to the nightlands, where the stars burn ever bright.”
–George R.R. Martin, A Feast for Crows

Valar Morghulis –all men must die.

Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce Valar Morghulis , the first Chapter Pack from the Beyond the Narrow Sea cycle for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game !

In Beyond the Narrow Sea the Great Houses of Westeros immerse themselves in the deadly intrigues of the Eastern continent, Essos. Valar Morghulis transports us to this massive and diverse continent with 60 new cards (3 copies each of 20 different cards) drawn from George R.R. Martin’s A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons .

Lead them to the nightlands

While offering veterans plenty of tools to devise new decks and strategies, the Chapter Packs from Beyond the Narrow Sea were designed to serve as an excellent second step for new players who just picked up their copy of the Core Set . Accordingly, Valar Morghulis addresses some of the questions most commonly posed by new players: the-kindly-man.png

  • “What are agendas?”
Valar Morghulis introduces three unique characters, including The Kindly Man ( Valar Morghulis , 1), who can each attach to your House card as an agenda.
  • “Are the plots interchangeable?”
Three new River plots expand your plot deck options and provide interesting possible combinations.
  • “Can you mix cards from different houses?”
The Chapter Packs in Beyond the Narrow Sea introduce several unique locations that help mitigate the “Out of House” gold penalty and encourage thematic decks built around characters sharing the same traits.

No one lives forever

The game of thrones is deadly, and once you begin to play, you must win or die. As Valar Morghulis sheds new light on Essos and its struggles, the Great Houses of Westeros find new allies and gain the services of many Deadly agents. New cards let you seize every advantage and ply it for greater power with fearsome responses. When you win a challenge, these cards grant you control over your opponents’ characters as well as their discard and dead piles.

No individual has ruled all of Essos since, at least, the days of Valyria. When the Great Houses of Westeros move to play their game of thrones in the Eastern continent, who will prosper among its city-states and sovereign kingdoms? Who will perish?

Valar Morghulis arrives in the second quarter of 2012!
