Connecticut

By Jamboxx, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Does anybody know of anyplace to play GoT in CT, or even buy the chapter packs? So far, I've had to grab them off the FFG webstore.

I thing this topic should belong in Metagame sub-forum, not here. Try to look there. Maybe you will find a topic that is already there and will help you more.

Er, sorry about that. Truth be told, I didn't really understand what metagame was. Sorry everyone!

No need to apologize!

The concept of the "Metagame" is one of the most fascinating aspects of this genre. The basic idea is this: When you actually sit down with a buddy to play AGOT, you are playing the "game." But before you even get to that point, if you really enjoy the hobby, you will spend time building a customized deck of cards with which to play. And because there are so many potentially winning strategies, your decisions will be influenced by what you think your opponent is likely to be doing when he builds his customized deck. This is the "metagame," because it is a layer of strategy that is in addition to the individual games that you play.

By extension, the word "meta" is also used to identify a group of people who play together often. A "meta" can be very small -- you and your best friend, for example. But it can also be large, like when players gather together at a game shop. In any case, geographical proximity is usually a defining factor for any "meta."

So, to finally get back to your original question.... Because the nature of "metas" is inherently local, the Metagames sub-forum is also a convenient place to identify players who can answer a question about a specific geographical location.

Thanks for the in depth explanation! My friends always referred to "metagame thinking" when discussing D&D, and I understood what was meant by that, but in a different context I was confused. Anyway, its good to know meta refers to a play group and proximity.

where in CT are you?

We have a regular playgroup in NYC, and I live in white plains, NY which is 10 minutes away from Greenwich.

I live in Hartford... By car that's a roughly 2.5 hour trip to NY City, and probably 1.5 hours to White Plains. At least according to Google Maps.
