Lions of the Rock Tyrion

"While Tyrion Lannister is participating in a challenge, all knelt Clansmen characters you control are also participating in the challenge on the same side as Tyrion."

does this really mean all? normally challenges are limited to characters with the right Icons, but equally they're normally limited to standing characters, which is why I can't decide whether the not having the text "all eligble Clansmen" is significant.

Basically, If Tyrion does an intrigue challenge, and I have kneeling clansmen with no intrigue icons, are they participating?

A second question - as it says "are participating" rather than "may participate" if i give someone the clansman trait AFTER declaring attackers, do they join the challenge (i.e. giving "clansman" to a deadly character after defenders are declared, to kill off the defender)

Keep in mind that challenges are not normally limited to characters with the right icons. Guardian Wolf can jump in to any challenge a Lord/Lady is in, not just military. Walder Frey can jump into any challenge at all - and he doesn't have any icons! The better way to think of it is that normally, declaring attackers or defenders is limited to characters with the right icons. The rules say you add up the STR of participating characters when you resolve the challenge, not participating characters with the right icon. So if you have a card effect that gets a character to participate in a challenge without actually declaring it as an attacker or a defender, icons don't matter.

So yeah, when Tyrion is participating in a challenge (declared or otherwise), he brings every kneeling Clansman into that challenge with him (without declaring them as attacker/defender) by card effect with no regard to the icons of the Clansmen at all.
