Bang for Greyjoy Buck

By JackofHearts, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

So hey! I've been playing for the past few months, just recently acquired my way up to a copy of every deluxe expansion. I've got all of the current block, and Ancient Enemies and Refugees of War. I can build some relatively decent decks, except my Greyjoy seems kinda lackluster. What one or two packs would you recommend for making Greyjoy more competitive?

Good call on getting the deluxe expansions first - this will give you a big boost for each house.

As for what next I would get the Song of Silence pack from the Brotherhood Without Banners cycle. Each of the 6 chapter packs in this cycle has a focus on a different house (unlike most cycles where each pack has a roughly even house distribution). Song of Silence is the greyjoy focus so has around 6-7 cards for them.

After this i would have a look on one of the websites with the card lists/scans so you can see the contents for yourself before making a purchase.

agotcards.org or cardgamedb.com or agot.dbler.com all have LCG cards scans and lists.

Would probably avoid any more packs from A Clash of Arms or A Time for Ravens. Nothing to do with card quality but the format of 3x10 cards and 1x10 cards has now been changed to 20x3 cards in later packs. At some point Clash of Arms and Time for Ravens will no doubt be reprinted in this format (as others have) and there are packs you can buy from these sets in the meantime. Only exception is perhaps The Winds of Winter from A Time for ravens cycle as it contains 3xWhite Raven (i think - but check first) - a card that uses the Winter mechanic (benefitting a lot of GJ cards and the "Choke" theme where you reduce opponents income)

If its unique characters you are looking for then the latest cycle - Tourney for the Hand - has a focus on unique charatcers for each house. Theres a new Euron, Theon, Asha, and Alanys in this set amongts others.

Happy Hunting!

Reread your post - you have the current cycle so ignore my last around Tourney for the Hand!

I too am confused. This cycle has been showing some incredible love Greyjoy. The Iron Price is really the only dud.

Maybe the problem is that GJ doesn't build the way some of the other Houses do. Even if a deck is really bad, some Houses seem easier to build, especially to newer players(?) Stark Siege and Bara Rush and Lanni kneel builds are more self-explanatory; excluding Winter builds, GJ is more of a toolbox House. They have some great cheap characters but they also have really expensive uniques and a variety of mechanics that can't stand alone (like raiding, still a weak build).
Jack, have you tried a clownboat build? They are often just fun to play... the basic idea is to dump out tons of (preferably cheap) characters with a lot of Warships, just flood the board and try to overwhelm with STR and superior saves. Warships power Naval Escort - kneeling 6 Warships to give 6 crappy weenie characters +6 STR for the whole phase is nothing to scoff at.
Try running something like ~32 characters, ~20 locations, mostly Warships - we'll say something like 3x Naval Escort, 2-3 LIV, 2-3 Scouting Vessel, 2x River Blockade, 1-2 Blackwind, Refurbished Hulks, maybe splash in Silence and/or Foamdrinker if you like, fill in the remaining ~8 cards in the deck with whatever works for your meta: Risen From the Sea for more saves, maybe some triggered effect cancel, some more draw mechanics, etc. I'm sure you find clownboat builds for inspiration if you look.
