I am very happy to begin unveiling the finalists for the 2008 Dark Heresy Scenario Contest! There were quite a few entries, and the trio of finalists should be honored that their dedication and hard work distinguished them from the great number of excellent entries that I received. I would like to extend my gratitude to everyone who participated in the contest. There was quite a diverse array of adventures and concepts, and it was particularly exciting to see how creative and enthusiastic the entries became!
Drum roll please...Finalist #1 is:
Idyll Heresies
by Daniel R. Robichaud II
Daniel R. Robichaud II’s entry showcases the debauchery of the upper classes and illustrates how the corruption of a wounded soul can become a conduit for the Ruinous Powers.
Daniel’s scenario overview is as follows:
Idyll Heresies
is a brief scenario designed for a group of Acolytes near the end of their first Rank or at the beginning of their second. Its mysteries plunge these Acolytes into one of Malfi's Underhive urban hells, tracking a heretical drug, Idyll. Following this narcotic will be no easy task, as it is the focal point between a silent conflict between a cult of decadent, noble family born, pleasure worshippers and a degenerate murderer plagued with dark ambitions. This challenging adventure melds investigation with healthy doses of violence, pitting Acolytes against foes both natural and malefic in origin.
The judges found Idyll Heresies to be a very entertaining and fun adventure, and particularly liked how Daniel made frequent references to relevant Skill Tests and Difficulties. The names of the NPC’s and Locations were very evocative, and the judges were impressed by the evocative feel of the overall storyline. The cast of characters and plot make this adventure a good resource for Game Masters looking for an interesting adventure for Acolytes at the beginning or middle of their Careers. The adventure is a solid, clean, and relatively streamlined example of its breed, and could definitely be used in conventions or as a one-off game to introduce new players to Dark Heresy .
Congratulations, Daniel R. Robichaud II! As one of the finalists, you may be selected as the ultimate winner of the 2008 Dark Heresy Scenario Contest!
