Does Sansa Stark's (Core Set) ability trigger automatically? Or does the controller choose whether or not to set it off?

It's a "Response," so it only triggers when Sansa's controller says it does. Putting an attachment on her "automatically" creates the opportunity for her controller to trigger her Response, but there is nothing saying s/he has to take it.

I personally tend to think that it's an error, and they intended to either make it a passive effect or a Response that can be triggered by anyone playing an attachment on her, but FFG never errata'd it, so this is how it works, for better or worse.
It may have been created as a Response with that specific text for the purposes of making it more useful in 2v2 play.

"Any player may trigger this Response" is not only a really huge thing to forget on an ability, I sincerely doubt it was ever FFG's plan to let me kill her and draw a card by playing Flame-Kissed.
